The Carmel Fire Department partnered with the Indiana National Guard and activated two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crews. Utilizing heavy-lift sling capability, Guardsmen are strategically placing 2,000-pound sandbags to construct the secondary dam. The strategic placement of these massive barriers is to provide backup should the initial dam disintegrate and water pass through. Members of CFD were in the water to help with placement of the sandbags and moving heavy equipment up and down the rocky path. This effort was made possible with collaboration and support from the entire City of Carmel, including our friends, the Carmel Police Department, Hamilton County and the state of Indiana. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Carmel, Hamilton County, and across Central Indiana who has been impacted by the devastating flooding.

We are proud of the work our firefighters performed over the weekend. Events like this remind us of the importance of preparation, training, and teamwork when our neighbors need us most.

We extend our gratitude to the Carmel Police Department, as well as our public safety partners from Fishers, Westfield, Noblesville, Hamilton County Dispatch, Hamilton County Emergency Management, and all of the agencies and organizations who supported the response.

Incidents of this scale require a coordinated effort. This weekend's response demonstrated the value of years of joint training, preparation, and strong partnerships across our communities.

To our residents, thank you for your patience, cooperation, and support during an incredibly difficult few days.

As recovery efforts continue, the Carmel Fire Department remains committed to serving and supporting our residents and neighboring communities. We are honored to stand alongside you when you need us most.

How to get help or give help:

The Hamilton County Fairgrounds is open as a reception center, Hall A, 2003 Pleasant St., Noblesville. The Red Cross is on site with food, water, and a safe place to be.

Supplies for Carmel residents will be distributed at Connection Pointe Christian Church, 2599 E. 98th St., from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Donate to the Hamilton County Relief Fund at hamiltoncountycf.org. Donate items through the Good Samaritan Network at gsnlive.org. Volunteer through Serve Village at servevillage.org.

White River Flooding Potential in Carmel

The White River has the potential to rise an additional 1–3 feet in Carmel between now and approximately 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The City of Carmel is working closely with Hamilton County EMA and public safety partners to monitor river levels and assess potential impacts.

The attached map shows areas that could potentially be affected if river levels reach these projected heights.

If your home is located within one of these areas, please consider making plans now for the possibility of low-level flooding and how it could impact your home, property, and access.

The City will continue to monitor river levels and communicate any public safety concerns as conditions develop. Please stay alert and be prepared to act if conditions change.

🚨 Carmel Public Safety Day Cancelled🚨

Due to the forecasted inclement weather, significant rainfall, and the State of Emergency declared for Hamilton County, Carmel Public Safety Day scheduled for August 15, 2026, has been canceled.

With emergency responders already addressing weather-related incidents and the potential for continued hazardous conditions, the safety of our community, responders, and event partners must come first.

We’re disappointed to miss everyone this year, but we’re already looking ahead to Carmel Public Safety Day 2027!
