At tonight’s Region 2 EMS Advisory Council meeting, Terry was formally recognized for his many years of dedicated service. He first joined the council in 2004 and retired from it this past January, concluding two decades of valuable leadership and commitment to the region’s emergency medical services.

🐍🌿 Snake Bites & Outdoor Hazards — Stay Alert This Season 🚑
With warmer weather here in Georgia, more people are enjoying the outdoors — and so are snakes and other hazards. Our crews see an increase in snake bites and outdoor-related injuries this time of year. Knowing what to do can make all the difference.
🐍 Snake Bite Safety�Venomous snakes in our area (such as copperheads and rattlesnakes) are most active in warmer months.
If bitten:�• Stay calm and limit movement�• Keep the affected limb at or below heart level�• Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing�• Call 911 immediately
🚫 What NOT to do:�• Do NOT apply a tourniquet�• Do NOT cut the wound or try to suck out venom�• Do NOT apply ice�• Do NOT attempt to catch or kill the snake

🌿 Other Outdoor Hazards to Watch For�• Ticks – can carry illnesses; check yourself after being outdoors�• Poison ivy/oak – avoid contact; wash skin and clothing quickly if exposed�• Dehydration & heat illness – take breaks and stay hydrated�• Uneven terrain – watch for slips, trips, and falls

🛑 When to Call 911:�• Any suspected snake bite�• Difficulty breathing or swelling of the face/neck�• Severe pain or rapid swelling�• Signs of allergic reaction

Enjoy the outdoors, but stay aware of your surroundings. A little caution goes a long way in preventing emergencies.

Franklin County EMS recently had the opportunity to participate in an Active Shooter training alongside Franklin County law enforcement, fire service, first responders and 911 center.

Training like this is critical to ensuring we are prepared to respond quickly, effectively, and safely in high-risk situations. It also highlights the importance of strong interagency collaboration. By working together in training, we build the communication, coordination, and trust needed to perform seamlessly when it matters most.
We are proud of the dedication shown by all personnel involved. Their commitment to continuous training helps ensure the delivery of high-quality prehospital care, even in the most challenging and dynamic environments.

🚑 Franklin County EMS Announces Prehospital Blood Products Program 🚑

We are proud to announce the launch of our prehospital blood products program. With this initiative, Franklin County EMS has officially joined the approximately 2% of EMS agencies nationwide equipped to carry and administer blood products in the prehospital setting.

Research consistently demonstrates that the early administration of blood products can significantly improve patient outcomes. We are honored to bring this advanced level of care to the citizens and visitors of Franklin County.

This milestone represents the culmination of many weeks of planning, coordination, and dedication by the FCEMS team. Achievements like this are only possible through strong collaboration, and we are deeply grateful for the support of our regional partners.

❄️ Cold Weather Preparedness Notice ❄️

With cold weather expected to move into our area, we encourage everyone to take steps now to prepare and stay safe.

Please consider the following:
• Fill prescription medications early to avoid interruptions during severe weather.
• Patients who use home oxygen should ensure they have extra oxygen bottles available in case of power outages.
• Stock up on essential supplies, including water, non-perishable/canned food, batteries, and necessary medical items.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those with medical needs.

Our EMS crews will continue to respond to emergency calls, but please be aware that severe weather conditions may impact response times due to road conditions and safety concerns.

Taking these steps ahead of time can help reduce risk and ensure your safety during the upcoming cold weather. We appreciate your cooperation and encourage everyone to stay informed and prepared.

Congratulations to Teryn Mize who was named the 2025 Gina Ayres EMT of the Year for Region 2. Teryn recently earned her paramedic licensure. Her experience as an EMT helped build a strong foundation. She will use this foundation to guide her as a paramedic, providing high-quality care to the people of our county.

Also, congratulations to Cameron Cheek, Alen McQuaig and Ben White for earning Dr. David Westfall Medical call of the Year for Region 2!
