State Rep. Jennifer Sanalitro Votes NO on Illinois Record FY2027 Spending

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) voted NO on Governor JB Pritzker’s FY2027 State Budget proposal, citing record spending, new taxes, and harmful cuts to local governments.

The FY2027 budget totals more than $55.9 billion, making it the largest state budget in Illinois history, while relying on approximately $800 million in new taxes and revenue increases.

“This budget continues the same reckless pattern we have seen for years — more spending, more taxes, and more pressure placed on Illinois families,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “At a time when residents are already struggling with high costs and the highest property taxes in the nation, Springfield lawmakers are once again asking taxpayers to foot the bill for out-of-control government spending.”

Sanalitro also raised concerns about the Governor’s proposal to keep the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) frozen at 6.47%, which jeopardizes municipalities’ share of state income tax revenue for things like police, fire, and other essential services.

“With the state failing to fund local governments, communities are forced to make up the difference somewhere else — and too often that means higher property taxes on working families and seniors,” Sanalitro said. “This budget shifts more financial burdens onto local taxpayers instead of addressing the real spending problem in Springfield. It needs to stop.”

The lawmaker from DuPage County also raised concerns about the $410 million dollars allocated for illegal immigrant spending, for things like welcoming centers, legal support services, integration services, migrant childcare, and healthcare.

“We should be prioritizing the needs of Illinois citizens, not expanding programs that taxpayers simply cannot afford,” Sanalitro said. “At a time when families are struggling to pay for groceries, gas, and housing, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on services for illegal immigrants sends the wrong message and ignores the financial realities facing hardworking taxpayers across our state.”

She concluded with: “Illinois families are being asked to do more with less every day,” Sanalitro said. “State government should be doing the same.”

🚨 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: JUST 2 DAYS LEFT BEFORE THE BUDGET DEADLINE 🚨

With just days remaining in session, Rep. Sanalitro is continuing to fight for real relief for Illinois families before lawmakers leave Springfield for the summer.

Here’s what she’s advocating for:

⛽ PAUSE THE GAS TAX HIKE
Stop the automatic gas tax increase scheduled for July 1st and provide immediate relief at the pump.

🏘️ RESTORE LOCAL FUNDING
Return LGDF funding to local communities to help reduce pressure on local taxpayers and support essential services.

🏠 DELIVER PROPERTY TAX RELIEF
Support meaningful property tax reforms for hardworking families and seniors facing the highest property taxes in the nation.

Rep. Sanalitro is also backing HB 9 and HB 1906 because they address one of the biggest drivers of high property taxes: excessive school district spending.

Illinois families are struggling with rising costs on groceries, gas, utilities, and housing. Rep. Sanalitro believes lawmakers should focus on affordability and responsible budgeting before session ends.

“Illinois families deserve relief — and we still have time to get it done.”

Rep. Sanalitro will continue fighting for:
✅ Lower taxes
✅ Responsible budgets
✅ Stronger communities
