🚨 POLICE INVESTIGATION UPDATE

The Carpentersville Police Department is investigating an incident involving a high school student that occurred near a school bus stop in the area of Robin and Thrush streets this morning, August 21.

At approximately 7:21 a.m., several individuals wearing masks approached a student who felt threatened. The student was able to safely board the school bus, and the driver left the area.

There have been unconfirmed reports that a weapon may have been involved. Police are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of those involved and the motive.

We understand that an incident involving a student can be concerning for families and our community. At this time, the investigation remains active, and we will share confirmed information as appropriate.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Acevedo at 224-293-1716.

On July 16, 2026, Governor JB Pritzker signed into law SB3164, updating Scott's Law (aka Move Over Law) to strengthen protections for first responders and roadside workers, increasing consequences for drivers.

Scott's Law requires drivers to:
⚠️Yield the right-of-way to any authorized emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights.
⚠️Change lanes if possible
⚠️Reduce your speed
⚠️Proceed with caution

This law applies to all authorized emergency vehicles, stationary or not, displaying flashing, oscillating lights, including first responder vehicles, tow trucks, and road repair vehicles. Drivers must also yield to any pedestrian directly involved in an emergency scene.
