We wrapped up session with a state budget passed for FY2027.
This year, we faced even greater challenges from the lack of federal funding received, and we still managed to pass a balanced budget. Top of my mind while passing this year's budget was affordability to Illinois families, while cutting costs where they are unnecessary, such as in government waste.
In the FY27 budget, we froze the state gas tax, cut costs on back-to-school supplies, invested more than $300 million into education while restoring property tax relief for schools, fully funded public safety initiatives including homelessness prevention and community-based violence prevention, fully funded safety-net hospitals with an additional $10 million dedicated to support Federally Qualified Health Centers for the most vulnerable families, and gave a $500 credit to over 100,000 Illinoisans kicked off of SNAP.
And much more.
I know there’s more work to do, and I’m on the ground in my district this summer, meeting people where they are at, engaging with neighbors, so I can lead D66 with my best foot forward.
Thank you so much for your continued support, D66!
