The Carpinteria Valley Water District (CVWD) and the Carpinteria Groundwater Sustainability Agency (CGSA) will hold consecutive public board meetings tonight, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Carpinteria City Hall (5775 Carpinteria Avenue) starting at 5:30 p.m. Community members can also participate remotely via Zoom.

Tonight's sessions focus on local water rates, fees, and future budgets. Key agenda items feature a public hearing on proposed CVWD water rate increases, a public hearing regarding CGSA fees for Fiscal Year 2027, and votes to adopt the upcoming operating budgets. The CVWD board will also vote on a resolution regarding property tax roll collections for the Carpinteria Advanced Purification Project (CAPP).

Public input is vital to these fiscal discussions. Community members can voice opinions on any non-agenda topic during the initial public forum or address specific items by filling out a speaker slip at City Hall before the hearing begins.

Alternatively, you can email a written comment up to 250 words to [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. tonight to have it entered into the official record. If you need special accommodations to participate, contact the District Office at 805-684-2816.

At Carpinteria Valley Water District’s Foothill Reservoir site, a team of about 300 goats and sheep is hard at work grazing nearly 15 acres of dry vegetation. Partnering with Ventura Brush Goats, this natural approach helps us manage weeds in areas where traditional methods can be difficult to maintain.

Bringing the goats in ahead of fire season is part of the District’s proactive wildfire prevention strategy. This location was in close proximity to the Thomas Fire, making ongoing vegetation management essential to protecting critical water infrastructure and the surrounding community.

The herd is expected to finish by Thursday. They’re making great progress while putting on an impressive show!

You may have heard recently that the Carpinteria Advanced Purification Project (CAPP) is moving forward!

A partnership between CVWD and Carpinteria Sanitary District, this project will provide more than 25% of the water district's supply while strengthening drought resilience, improving groundwater levels, and reducing ocean discharge.

Pipeline and facility construction is expected to begin soon, with timing still being finalized. Once underway, neighbors may notice typical construction activity along the route.

A big step toward a sustainable water future for Carpinteria!

Yesterday, the Carpinteria Valley Water District and Carpinteria Sanitary District broke ground on the Carpinteria Advanced Purification Project (CAPP), an initiative that will recycle more than 1 million gallons of water daily and supply up to 25% of water district needs.

By turning treated wastewater into a reliable, drought-proof water source, CAPP strengthens local resilience, protects our groundwater basin, and secures water for generations to come.
