After 36 years of dedicated service to the Carrboro community, we proudly congratulate Bobby Horton II on his well-earned retirement from the Town of Carrboro.
Throughout his career, Bobby has been a dependable and highly respected member of the Public Works team, helping maintain and improve the infrastructure and services that residents rely on every day. His commitment, strong work ethic, and unwavering dedication to public service have left a lasting mark on both the department and the community.
Over more than three decades with Public Works, Bobby witnessed tremendous growth and change while playing an important role in the department's continued success. His knowledge, experience, professionalism, and steady presence earned the respect of his coworkers and will be greatly missed by colleagues and residents alike.
Bobby's roots in the Carrboro area run deep. He grew up in a family with longstanding ties to the community near Mount Carmel Church Road. His father owned Horton TV Service, located beside Cliff's Meat Market on West Main Street, and his uncle, Randy Horton, retired from OWASA in 2019 after 42 years of dedicated public service.
Reflecting on his career, Bobby says one of the things he valued most was the sense that "everyone was like family" among his coworkers. The former Public Works facility became a second home, especially during winter storms when he and his team spent long nights on standby, ready to clear snow and ice to keep the community safe.
As he begins retirement, Bobby is looking forward to leaving schedules behind, tackling long-awaited projects around the house, and spending more time at home in Siler City with his wife, Tamar, their two dogs, and a cat.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bobby for 36 years of exceptional service to the Town of Carrboro. His dedication, reliability, and contributions have made a lasting difference in our community. We wish him good health, happiness, and many rewarding years ahead filled with family, friends, and the freedom to enjoy all that retirement has to offer.
