🚨 SCAM ALERT – Fraudulent Text Messages 🚨
The Foster County Sheriff's Office has recently been made aware of a text message scam circulating in our area.

Residents have reported receiving text messages claiming to be from the North Dakota DMV with an “Enforcement Notice” stating the recipient has an outstanding citation. The message typically includes a link directing the recipient to pay the citation and warns that failure to pay could result in suspension of the recipient’s vehicle registration and driver’s license.

⚠️ These messages are a scam.
Please keep the following in mind:
• The North Dakota DMV does not send enforcement notices or citation payments through unsolicited text messages.
• Do not click the link provided in the message.
• Do not provide personal or financial information through links sent via text.
• If you receive this message, delete it and block the sender.

If you believe you may have provided personal or financial information through one of these messages, please contact your financial institution and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.

We encourage residents to share this post to help spread awareness and protect others in our community.

FOSTER COUNTY FATAL CRASH

Where: Highway 200 at mile marker 300 (6 miles east of Carrington)
When: March 2, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
Road Conditions: Good
Weather Conditions: Sunny
Crash Involvement: Vehicle/CMV
Type of Crash: T-bone
Agencies Involved: North Dakota State Patrol, Carrington Police Department, Carrington Fire & Rescue, Carrington Ambulance, Foster County Sheriff’s Office

Vehicle No. 1: 2006 Peterbilt Semi with trailer
Driver No. 1: Male, 32, Washburn, minor injuries
Restraints: Seatbelt in use
Charges: None

Vehicle No. 2: 2019 Ford F-150
Driver No. 2: Male, 80, Carrington, fatal
Restraints: No seatbelt in use

NARRATIVE: On March 2, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a 2006 Peterbilt semi with trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 200 and a 2019 Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on 74th Avenue NE. The Ford entered the intersection to cross Highway 200 and was struck on the passenger side by the semi. Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in a field on the southeast corner of the intersection. The driver of the Peterbilt was transported to CHI St Alexius in Carrington with minor injuries. The driver of the Ford F-150 was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota State Patrol.

Former NDHP Superintendent Norman Evans, 87, Bismarck died Friday, January 16, 2026. Evans served as superindent from 1981-1984. After serving as superintendent, he returned to being director of the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy. He taught officers to serve their communities at a close level---he taught community policing before it had a name.

Rest in Peace, Norm. Your legacy will continue to serve the citizens of North Dakota.
