The end of the school year and beginning of summer means more kids walking, biking, scootering, and exploring the neighborhood. It also means we all need to pay extra attention on our roads and sidewalks.

Whether your child is riding a bike, using an e-scooter, walking to a friend’s house, or learning to drive, small conversations and safe habits can prevent serious injuries.

Here are a few ways families can help kids stay safe this summer:
• Wear a helmet every ride — bikes, e-scooters, and skateboards included
• Stay alert and avoid distractions like phones or headphones near traffic
• Ride at safe speeds and follow traffic signs and signals
• Use lights and reflective gear when riding at dusk or nighttime
• Parents and caregivers: model safe behavior by slowing down, staying focused while driving, and watching carefully for kids outside.

No matter where we’re headed this summer, what matters most is that we all arrive safely.
