If you smell gas in your home, don’t ignore it. A natural gas leak can become dangerous very quickly. The Carrollton Fire Department would like to remind our community of the warning signs and what to do if you suspect a leak.

⚠️ Signs of a possible gas leak:
• Smell of rotten eggs or sulfur
• Hissing or whistling sounds near gas lines or appliances
• Dead plants or grass near a gas line
• Bubbling in standing water outdoors
• Dizziness, nausea, headaches, or unusual fatigue inside the home
• Pets acting sick or unusually restless

🚨 If you suspect a gas leak:
• Leave the home immediately
• Do NOT turn lights on or off
• Do NOT use phones, lighters, candles, or anything that could create a spark inside the home
• Shut off the gas only if you know how and it is safe to do so
• Call 911 and your gas company from a safe location away from the home

Natural gas leaks are serious, but quick action can save lives. Please make sure your home has working carbon monoxide detectors and that everyone in your household knows what to do in an emergency.

Tonight, members of the Ghent Fire Department and Carrollton Fire Department participated in driver/operator training utilizing the VFIS Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Course.

This training focused on safe emergency vehicle operations, maneuvering, backing, obstacle navigation, and improving overall driver awareness while operating apparatus in emergency and non-emergency situations. Continuous training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively while protecting both our crews and the community we serve.

We appreciate the opportunity to train together and strengthen the teamwork between our departments. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make tonight’s training a success. 🚒

🚨🔥 Bathroom Fan Safety Reminder 🔥🚨

The Carrollton Fire Department would like to remind everyone about an often-overlooked fire hazard in your home—bathroom exhaust fans.

While these fans are great for removing moisture and preventing mold, leaving them running for long periods of time or unattended can pose a serious fire risk.

Over time, dust and lint can build up inside the fan motor. When combined with heat from extended use, this buildup can overheat and potentially ignite, leading to a fire inside your ceiling or attic space.

🛑 Safety Tips to Remember:
• Turn off your bathroom fan when you leave the house or go to bed
• Don’t leave fans running for extended periods of time
• Clean your fan regularly to prevent dust buildup
• Replace old or noisy fans—they may be wearing out
• Consider installing a timer switch to automatically shut the fan off

🔥 A small habit change can make a big difference in preventing a fire.

As always, make sure your smoke detectors are working properly and have a plan in place in case of an emergency.

Stay safe, Carrollton! 🚒❤️

With warmer weather here, we’re seeing more lawn mowing and more motorcycles on the road — a combination that can quickly become dangerous if we’re not paying attention.

🚨 Grass Clippings & Motorcycles – A Serious Hazard 🚨
Blowing or leaving grass clippings on the roadway creates a slippery surface, especially for motorcycles. What may seem harmless can cause a rider to lose control in seconds.

🌱 When Mowing:
• Always direct grass clippings away from the road
• Sweep or blow any clippings off the pavement after mowing
• Never leave debris in the roadway

🏍️ For Motorcyclists:
• Stay alert for grass clippings, gravel, and other debris
• Reduce speed in residential and rural areas
• Increase following distance and use extra caution in curves

A small action can make a big difference. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone in our community.
