Today, Pickens County Schools had the privilege of hosting Fatal Decision Day 2026 at Pickens County High School—an impactful program reminding our students how the choices they make today can affect the rest of their lives.
A special thank you to Judge Lance Bailey for his vision and leadership in establishing this program in 2014. His dedication to educating and protecting the young people of Pickens County continues to make a lasting difference in our community. His message is clear and powerful: “You lose when you decide to drink, text, and drive.”
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the many agencies and individuals who helped make this day possible, including the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, PHI Air Medical, Pickens County Ambulance Service, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Pickens County law enforcement (Sheriff’s Office and local Police Chiefs), the Pickens County District Attorney’s Office, Reginald King, and Mike Lutzenkirchen and the Lutzie 43 Foundation.
Through powerful demonstrations on the football field and the program in the auditorium, students were able to see firsthand the real-life consequences of dangerous decisions behind the wheel.
Thank you to everyone who worked together to make this day meaningful and impactful for our students. Programs like this help educate, protect, and prepare the next generation to make wise and responsible choices.
