Many thanks to the team at PPG Paints for generously providing a BBQ lunch for the entire shift today!
🚧TRAFFIC ALERT⚠️
Yesterday our recruits were out driving our cone course - this course is used to help all members be competent in operating our apparatus in different situations we find throughout the city.
Our Community Risk Reduction Specialist, Firefighter/Paramedic Tommy Tran, has been busy this week! He has been at the Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch as well as several school visits where he is teaching and reviewing safety topics with some our community’s school age children!
Yesterday Truck 117, Engjne 114 and Medics 117 and 114 utilized our training prop at Firehouse 7 to work on ventilation drills and chain saw use - they even got in some manual chopping with hand held tools. 👨🚒 🪓
Why do we cut holes in roofs? Good question! Vertical ventilation quickly removes heat and smoke from the structure. This process enhances our ability to search for victims and helps us find and extinguish the fire quicker.
With the time change last night we had to “Turn Back” our clocks - Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue reminds everyone this is a perfect time to change your smoke alarm batteries!
⏰Change Your Clocks - Change Your Batteries. Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
🗓Replace Smoke Alarms that are 10 years old or older!
🚨Have Smoke alarms on every level of your house and for every sleeping area!
🆘 Have a Plan - EDITH Practice Exit Drills In The Home
☎️Know your address and Call 911 in an Emergency!
🖊Put the date of installation on new alarms for future reference.
Did You Know?
Our Community Risk Reduction Specialist, Firefighter/Paramedic Tommy Tran has been staffing our First Aid booth today at the Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard. He has been quizzing visitors to the festival with safety questions and giving out some prizes for “correct” answers!
Did You Know?
Did you know that members of Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue’s Fire Marshal’s office performed fire safety inspections of the vendors at the Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard to help ensure our visitors’ and vendors’ safety.
Come out to the Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard tomorrow, November 4, from 11a-10p in Historic Downtown Carrollton and stop by our booth for some safety material!
If you’re headed out to the Festival - Stay in the know! Text, “CFAS” to 888777 to sign up for text alerts for important news and updates!
Carrollton, TX - City Government
Just before 7am this morning while many of us were on our way to work, Engines 111 and 115 responded to a vehicle fire in the Southbound lanes of Interstate Highway 35E, just before the exit Valwood Parkway.
They arrived on scene to find a passenger vehicle with the engine compartment on fire.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire.
But a reminder - when encountering emergency vehicles on the roadway (Fire Engines, Ambulances, Police vehicles, Tow Trucks, etc) for everyone’s safety -
SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER!
IT’S THE LAW!
No injuries were reported.
Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue recruits are training on VEIS drills today.
What are VEIS drills you ask?? Good question! These are drills where fire fighters practice accessing a window - sometimes from the ground, or in this case a ladder, where they will enter a room to search for victims when we may not be able to access the victims via the hallway due to fire or smoke conditions.
VEIS
V- VENT the space - which in this case is simulating letting smoke out of a window
E- ENTER the space
I- ISOLATE the space - means close the door to isolate the room from more smoke/heat getting into that space
S-SEARCH the space for victims
We are very grateful to have a training tower that allows us to conduct such a variety of different training evolutions.
⚾️ LET’S GO RANGERS!! ⚾️
Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue Firefighter/EMT Zach Millhorn seen here relocating a tortoise 🐢 named “Harley” today. “Harley’s” living space had a gas leak and needed to relocate temporarily to keep warm while the leak was fixed.
This is Zach’s second animal rescue this week - yesterday he rescued a cat 🐈⬛ that got stuck in a different residence’s chimney.
Great Job Zach!
Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Ben Pratt on receiving his 10 year Carrollton, TX - City Government challenge coin today!
Pictured - Battalion Chief Jeremy Perison (L) presenting Ben Pratt (R) his coin!
Today our new recruits are doing bailout training.
First step is going through reps with the ground level prop.
The second part of the training is going to the training tower and going out of a 3rd floor window.
This training is if a firefighter has to evacuate a structure through a window because of fire conditions won’t allow them to exit through normal pathways. Conducting this training helps build confidence and muscle memory for firefighters if they ever find themselves in a position that requires bailing out of an upper story window
🎃Happy Halloween!👻
Carrollton Texas Fire Rescue reminds you to dress warm tonight for trick or treating- and make sure you are visible, use a flashlight🔦 and look 👀both ways when crossing the street. 🍬🍫🍭
🥶We are under a Freeze Warning!!🥶
Reminders -

🧊 Turn off lawn sprinklers to avoid creating ice surfaces that may result in injuries or accidents - at home and work!
🚿 Protect outdoor faucets/pipes let indoor faucets drip - especially those faucets with pipes on exterior walls
🐕 Bring pets indoors
🥶 Check on Elderly Relatives & Neighbors during wintry weather
🚫 DO NOT use stoves, ovens or generators to warm living spaces

Our new recruits are out getting some hose advancing and water flow training done today at the Joint Fire Training Tower.
Firefighter/Paramedic John Swanson was recognized today by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - McKinney with a Going Above & Beyond Award.
FF/PM Swanson was driving off duty recently when he witnessed a vehicle veer off the highway and crash into a muddy ditch.
Swanson made his way to the vehicle to find the driver unresponsive and in a locked vehicle. After having to break a window to gain access to the patient, he found the patient was pulseless.
Swanson quickly removed the patient and began CPR.
He continued CPR until McKinney Fire Department arrived and took over care of the patient. The patient was transported to the hospital where a pulse was restored.
We are very proud of Firefighter/Paramedic Swanson for his actions!

Our thoughts with our Brothers and Sisters in Blue today. 💙
Seems like just yesterday his big, bright and contagious smile filled the hallways of the police department.
It is difficult to believe it has been one year since we lost our brother, Officer Steven R. Nothem #1070.
We miss him everyday but know he is watching over us.
A special thank you to everyone who has shown their support during this past year as we navigated the loss of one of our own.
Please continue to keep his family, both blood and blue, in your thoughts during this difficult day of remembrance.
