Take a look at this stunning drone view of the our University of Nevada, Reno Fallon Experiment Station, where our Extension team is planting h**p and sorghum directly into winter cover crops.

This research is part of a long-term effort to explore the viability of a sustainable industrial h**p industry in Nevada. By integrating these crops into cover-cropped fields, we’re gathering data on soil health, water use, crop performance, and overall production potential in Nevada’s unique climate.

From the ground to the sky, every angle shows the promise of innovation, stewardship, and the future of Nevada agriculture. 🌾

Seniors spend more time at home — is your indoor air safe?

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that can become trapped inside houses. Even short-term exposure can contribute to major health problems, including increased risks for lung cancer and stroke.

The only way to know your radon level is to test.

Stop by your nearest UNR Extension office to check out a free radon monitor.

👉 Take action today and help protect yourself or a loved one.

(Note: Nevada is not listed among the states that require or recommend school radon testing, according to a recent overview of school testing laws.)

What is Kuno Scale? It's a soft scale insect that actually doesn’t look much like an insect at all! They appear as small, rounded, shell-like bumps attached to the plant and they can impact fruit trees.

Leaf roller caterpillars are back...and busy! 🐛

These tiny architects roll leaves into shelters and feed from the inside out. An early heat wave may have given them a head start this year. Look out for curled leaves and webby construction. Leaf rollers look dramatic, but most plants can handle some damage and the caterpillars will be gone in a few weeks. Large colonies can be sprayed with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) but natural predators and hand removal also reduce their numbers.

Your pets spend more time at home — are they breathing safe air?

Radon is an invisible gas that can accumulate indoors, and pets, especially those who stay close to the ground, can be affected just like people. Even short-term exposure can put them at risk.

The only way to know if your home is safe is to test for radon.

Good news: Testing is FREE and EASY.

Borrow a radon monitor from your local UNR Extension office and check your home’s air quality.

👉 Protect your furry family members. Test for radon now.

🍂 **Leave the Leaves for the Pollinators!** 🍂

As we head into fall, consider leaving some of those fallen leaves in your garden beds. 🍁 Not only does it reduce yard work, but it also provides essential shelter for overwintering pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. 🐝🦋 These leaves create a cozy, natural habitat that protects them from the cold and helps keep our ecosystem thriving. 🌱

So before you rake it all up, think about leaving a layer for the little guys! Your garden (and the pollinators) will thank you next spring. 🌼💚
