During an emergency, collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial from the moment response begins to the end of recovery. The private sector supports its communities as trusted partners, providing expertise and a wealth of resources and partnerships. The Nevada Office of Emergency Management recognizes the importance of these relationships, and has created the Nevada Business Emergency Operations Center (NV BEOC) to align public goals with private sector capabilities.

Emergency managers are facing increasingly complex challenges that require innovative solutions. Combining public and private resources to support our shared goals allows for our communities to reap the benefits, while fostering overall resiliency.

We understand that trust and transparency goes both ways, which is why we view the private sector as mission partners. By working together before, during and after emergencies, we can align priorities and coordinate strategies before they're needed, reducing response times and ensuring a more effective recovery outcome for survivors.

Public land closure lifted at Moon Rocks Recreation Area

As of today, the temporary public land closure at Moon Rocks due to wildfire, issued on August 11, has been lifted for the North Reno Recreation Area Moon Rocks. All recreationists in this area are welcome to return and enjoy the space, but please remember to use only existing trails for your activities.

The North Reno Recreation Area encompasses the Dogskin Mountains, portions of Hungry Valley, and the popular Moon Rocks play area. Altogether, this covers approximately 19,050 acres of public lands, offering plenty of room for exploration and recreation.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to responsible land use. Enjoy your time out there, and please help us keep these public lands safe and accessible for all.

Please see guidance from Nevada Department of Human Services. The deadline to apply for replacement SNAP benefits has been extended for those impacted by recent wildfires.

SNAP REPLACEMENT BENEFITS DEADLINE EXTENDED‼️
If you lost food purchased with SNAP benefits because of the Fred, Bug, Stallion, or Hawk fires or related power outages you have more time to request replacement benefits.
Affected households have until September 7, 2026, to report food loss. SNAP recipients can report food loss by visiting any local office https://ow.ly/U9rC50ZHrWM or calling 775-684-7200.
All reports must be reviewed and verified, amounts may be lower than requested.

She spoke with us about how borders play a role in emergency response, how important Preliminary Damage Assessments are, and how Washoe County is constantly working to give back to its partners.
