Identify Burglary Suspect

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division seeks information to identify a suspect in a burglary investigation.
On August 11th, 2026, around 10:20 pm, an unknown suspect broke into the Aquatic Center located at 841 Roop Street in Carson City. During the investigation, we obtained a photo of the suspect (see attached). The suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with “VEGAS” printed in red lettering on the back, black pants, white sneakers, and a black hat.

ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY

MEDIA RELEASE

On July 21 and July 29, 2026, Carson City Sheriff's Deputies attempted to conduct traffic enforcement stops on a white motorcycle for reckless driving and operating without vehicle registration. During both separate incidents, the rider actively taunted law enforcement by rapidly accelerating away from deputies, performing wheelies, turning backward to make obscene gestures ("flipping them off"), and waving his hands to provoke a pursuit.

The suspect rider then accelerated to extreme, dangerous speeds and weaved in and out of traffic. To ensure public safety and avoid a high-speed pursuit that would further endanger surrounding motorists, deputies terminated the stops. The rider ultimately escaped due to his reckless speeds. Deputies are attempting to identify the suspect for eluding, reckless driving, and no vehicle registration.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office obtained photographs of the suspect and his motorcycle. The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help identify the subject in the pictures below. Please get in touch with Deputy Dawson at (775)-600-8075 or [email protected].

Today, we pause to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Deputy Carl Howell, who gave his life in the line of duty on August 15, 2015.

Eleven years have passed, but Deputy Howell’s courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting our community have never been forgotten. His legacy continues to live on within the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in the community he served, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Today, we remember not only the deputy who made the ultimate sacrifice, but also the father, friend, and brother behind the badge.

Today, members of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office stand alongside our brothers and sisters at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as they honor their fallen officer. Sheriff Furlong has sent Sgt. Marquez, Detective Espino, and Deputy Kepler to represent our agency as Officer Austin Abdelnabi is laid to rest.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Austin Abdelnabi’s family, the men and women of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department who are mourning the loss of a friend and coworker, and the entire Las Vegas community as they grieve the loss of a dedicated protector. Rest easy. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Back to School - Traffic Safety

Carson City, NV – The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that the new school year starts on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026. Our School Resource Officers, Traffic Units, and Patrol Deputies will be teaming up to monitor and enforce all school zone laws for the 2026 school year.

We would like to provide the community with some helpful school zone traffic safety laws.

Nevada law prohibits drivers from driving faster than 15 miles per hour in posted school zones. School zones are sections of streets that are adjacent to school properties. School zone flashers, or flashing yellow lights, accompanied by the school zone speed limit, turn on when the school zone is active.

Drivers are not allowed to make U-turns or pass other vehicles in active school zones or school crossing zones. Crossing guards will be in areas near elementary schools to provide additional traffic safety for younger students crossing in the marked crosswalks.
Do not pass a school bus with red flashing lights. Children are exiting the bus and may dart out into the street.

Please be patient and mindful of the students, crossing guards, and other parents dropping off their children within our school zones.
Law enforcement personnel will continue to enforce traffic safety laws year-round as part of their commitment to reduce accidents and save lives. Whether you're the driver, a passenger, or a student, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority.

Joining Forces

Distracted Driving Campaign

Carson City, NV – The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with regional law enforcement agencies, has announced a high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing distracted driving from now until the end of August.

Nevada Revised Statute 484B.165 prohibits the use of a cell phone or any other handheld wireless communications device while operating a motor vehicle on a highway in this State. This includes but is not limited to texting, reading or sending data, searching the internet, or engaging in non-voice communications.

According to NHTSA, in 2024, there were 3,208 people killed and more than 315,000 people injured in traffic crashes involving distracted drivers. Consider these tips for safe driving:

•If you have to text, pull over to a safe location and park your car — only then should you read or send the text message.

•Distracted driving isn’t just texting; scrolling through social media or messaging while driving is distracted driving too.

•Appoint your passenger as the “designated texter” to respond to calls or messages.

•Activate your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” feature, silence notifications, or put your phone away in the trunk so you won't be tempted to respond.

•Speak up if you see someone texting and driving and ask them to put their phone away.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will continue to enforce traffic safety laws and educate the public year-round as part of their commitment to reduce accidents and save lives. Whether you're the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority.

Sheriff’s Night Out was a wonderful reminder of what makes Carson City such a special place to call home. It was truly our biggest event to date.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Sheriff’s Night Out! Seeing so many families, neighbors, and friends come together to meet the men and women who serve this community made for an unforgettable evening.

Your support, engagement, and smiles are what strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and the community.

Human Remains Identified in 1994 Case

Carson City, NV – The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recovered unidentified human remains (UHR), specifically a partial human cranium, from the Spooner Summit area in May 1994. Using investigative genetic genealogy, the UHR have since been identified as Alan Don Bishop.

Alan Don Bishop was reported missing by his family in Salt Lake City, Utah in July 1984. Alan experienced mental health concerns and was known to travel by hitchhiking. His family last received contact from him via mail in July 1984, when he advised he was traveling to Oregon via California. Communication with Alan subsequently ceased, and his bank activity became inactive, which caused his family to report Alan missing.

In May 1994, a logging crew discovered UHR at a work site in the Spooner Summit area. Responding CCSO personnel completed searches of the area but discovered no additional human remains or other evidence. Anthropological analyses determined the UHR likely belonged to an adult male but were unable to positively identify the subject. The UHR showed no signs of trauma.

More recently, investigative genetic genealogy has shown great success in cold case investigations and UHR identifications. CCSO partnered with the Retired Investigators Guild (RIG) and the Ramapo College of New Jersey Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center in an attempt to identify the subject in this 1994 UHR case.

Astrea Forensics, a forensic DNA testing laboratory based in Scotts Valley, California, completed the DNA analysis in this case. Astrea Forensics extracted a viable DNA sample from the UHR from which they developed a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) profile. The SNP profile was provided to the Ramapo College of New Jersey Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center, which identified Alan Don Bishop as the likely candidate. The RIG identified and obtained a DNA sample from a living full-sibling of Alan. Astrea Forensics confirmed the familial relationship between Alan and the living sibling by a match in mitochondrial DNA, and thus positively identified the UHR as Alan Don Bishop.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office affirmed the UHR identification of Alan Don Bishop by investigative genetic genealogy and mitochondrial DNA analyses. The Bishop family has since been notified of the positive identification.
