The fire has been contained and the scene turned over to thr Public Works team to monitor overnight.

🔥 LANDFILL FIRE UPDATE 🔥
Carson City Fire Department crews are currently on scene at the landfill fire. Fire suppression efforts are ongoing.

Smoke may be visible from surrounding areas. Residents are encouraged to avoid the immediate area and use caution if smoke impacts nearby roadways or reduces visibility.

Crews are working with Carson City Public Works, East Fork Professional Firefighters and Central Lyon Fire to bring the fire under control. The situation is being monitored.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience as our crews work to safely manage the incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

🔥 That’s a wrap on Fire Prevention Week! 🔥
Whew! What a week! Our crews delivered 10 fire prevention presentations throughout the community, sharing important lessons that can help keep our families, homes, and neighbors safe.
A huge THANK YOU to all the schools, teachers, students, and community members who welcomed us this week. We love getting out into the community, connecting with our future firefighters, and helping everyone be a little more fire-safe!
As we wrap up the week, remember the lessons that matter long after Fire Prevention Week is over:
🚪 Get Low and Go! If there’s smoke, get down low and get outside. Smoke rises, and the air is safer closer to the floor.
🛏️ Close Before You Doze! Close your bedroom door before going to sleep. A closed door can help slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire.

Fire Prevention Week may be over, but fire safety is a year-round job! Thanks for letting us be part of your week, Carson City. ❤️💛

🚪 Close Before You Doze — A Message That Matters

Fire Prevention Week is about teaching simple actions that can make a difference when it matters most. Sometimes, we see that impact much sooner than we ever expect.

On Monday, CCFD firefighters visited local elementary school students and shared our “Close Before You Doze” message—encouraging children to close their bedroom doors before going to sleep and explaining how a closed door can help slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire.

The very next morning, those lessons hit close to home.

Firefighters responding to a residential fire learned from the children that they had remembered the message from the day before and closed their bedroom doors.

We share this with tremendous respect for the family experiencing the loss and disruption that comes with a fire. Our thoughts are with them as they begin the difficult process of moving forward.

For our firefighters, hearing those children say, “We learned Close Before You Doze,” was a powerful reminder of why fire prevention education matters.

Sometimes a simple lesson sticks. Sometimes it becomes an action. And sometimes, that action matters.

🚪 Close Before You Doze.
🔔 Make sure your smoke alarms work.
🏃 Get out and stay out.

🥾 When the hike out becomes the rescue.
CCFD crews responded to Kings Canyon Trail on 10/7/2026 for a 40-year-old female who sustained an ankle injury while hiking and was unable to make her way back down the trail.
Engine 52, Rescue 52, BLS 54 and Brush 54 made the trek in—thanks to some incredibly helpful bystanders who used an ATV to get our crews closer to the patient. From there, our crews hiked the rest of the way in, packaged the patient onto a SKED, and then began the long hike back out.
And by long hike, we mean all the way down. 🥾⬇️
This was a true team effort involving our crews, some very helpful members of the public, and a whole lot of manpower.

A reminder for everyone enjoying our trails: accidents can happen even on a beautiful day. Know your route, carry a charged phone, bring water, and let someone know where you're headed.

And to the bystanders who jumped in to help our crews get where they needed to go—thank you. That kind of community support makes a difference. ❤️‍🔥

The incident remains active, and firefighters are working to bring the fire under control.
