We got to be in two places at once with the flood demonstration model thanks to our partners at US National Weather Service Reno Nevada and Douglas County, Nevada Public Works. We hope everyone had fun at Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Earth Day and Genoa Western Heritage Days. Check us out at public events throughout the watershed this spring and summer!

💧 DCNR Announces New Nevada State Engineer

We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Joe Cacioppo to State Engineer and Administrator of the Nevada Division of Water Resources, effective March 30, 2026.

A U.S. Army veteran and licensed civil engineer, Joe brings nearly three decades of experience in water resources and Nevada water law.

Statement from our new State Engineer: "Today’s announcement by James Settelmeyer, Director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), appointing me as the State Engineer for the Nevada Division of Water Resources is a true honor. I am humbled by the trust and the opportunity and will work diligently in the best interest of our state’s most precious resource. The leadership and staff at DCNR and within the Division have been very welcoming and supportive, as have many members of the public. I sincerely appreciate each of them.

One of my goals as State Engineer is to enhance our interaction with the public. Another is to work with our talented and professional staff to solicit ideas on efficiencies that can streamline processes, thus simplifying workloads and permitting timeframes. The availability of water is of tremendous importance to our various communities throughout this great state. Being approachable, efficient, and enhancing ways to work collaboratively are values I hold dear and feel save time, reduce issues, and best support our mission. I look forward to the many opportunities related to water that lie ahead."

With Great Respect and Appreciation!

Joe Cacioppo, P.E., WRS
State Engineer

Please join us in congratulating Joe on his new role!
