Ma*****na and the Developing Brain

Carson City Juvenile Services' upcoming Community Engagement Night is on Thursday, May 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Carson City Juvenile Services, located at 740 S. Saliman Rd., Carson City, NV 89701.

Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Vicki LaVersa, will speak about ma*****na and its impact on the developing brain. She will also discuss current findings regarding the physical and psychological impacts of ma*****na on parents and teenagers. Anyone can attend, including youth.

Carson City Juvenile Services offers Walk-In and Crisis Intervention Services to anyone in the community in need of supportive services with their youth.

In other news, we are asking you to fill out the survey for the City's Language Access Plan at carsoncity.gov/lap. Nevada requires government agencies to create a Language Access Plan to improve access to government services.

Lastly, we know you have seen or heard the sheep near C-Hill. For 20 years, this fuels reduction project has reduced wildfire risk in our wildland urban interface.

Prison Hill Fire

Carson City, NV – At 10:15 a.m., Carson City Fire Department responded to a fire on Prison Hill, near Gentry Lane. The fire has moved west and is contained. As of noon, the fire has burned roughly 7.5 acres. Gentry Lane is closed and only accessible to residents of that street. There are no evacuation requirements at this time.

Aside from the Gentry Lane closure, the 5th St. Trail, N. Prison Hill Trail, and all trails at Silver Saddle Ranch are closed as emergency responders work to extinguish the fire.

Several local agencies responded to the fire: Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Public Works, and Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We also want to acknowledge our regional partners that responded: East Fork Fire, Tahoe Douglas Fire, Truckee Fire, Reno Fire, North Lake Tahoe Fire, BLM, Forrest Service, and Central Lyon Fire. Every construction project in the community, from the construction of a new hotel to a kitchen remodel, is reviewed by a team in the Carson City Community and Economic Development Department before the commencement of work. The public sector team works in partnership with the private sector in reviewing the plans and inspecting the work.

📣Spring into April with us! The Mexican Dam Portage Project is complete and will help non-motorized watercraft get around the Mexican Dam.

📣 Help Shape the Priorities for the City by Completing the Strategic Plan Survey

The City is asking the public to participate in the Strategic Plan Survey. The survey will allow the public to help shape priorities for the next strategic plan that will begin during the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) 2027 through 2031.

The purpose of strategic planning is to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, and ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals.

To fill out the survey, go to carsoncity.gov/strategicplan. English and Spanish versions are available to the public. Survey closes on March 23.

🌨🌧 A reminder that the sandbag station is available at the Public Works facility, at 3055 Butti Way.
The National Weather Service predicts rain/snow and gusty wind conditions for the next 48 hours. Public Works will be out clearing storm drains to increase water flow and mitigate flooding. Stay dry and stay safe!
