Nevada National Guard conducts flight training to mark the retirement of UH-60 A/L Blackhawk

STEAD, Nev. - Soldiers with the Nevada Army National Guard’s 238th General Support Aviation Battalion, Golf Company, conducted flight training Saturday to commemorate the retirement of the UH-60A/L Blackhawk.

The A/L Blackhawk has been in service for more than four decades and Nevada’s Golf Company is one of the last remaining pure Medevac Units designated strictly for medical evacuation missions. The aircraft is among the earliest Blackhawks still in operation, and its retirement aligns with the Army Transformation Initiative, which prioritizes integrating new technologies, including newer M-model Blackhawks.

During the event, the 238th flew the retiring helicopter, along with three other A/L Blackhawks, from North Valleys to the Lake Tahoe area and back, the unit said. The multiship flights are part of ongoing training to maintain pilot readiness for large-scale combat and domestic operations, officials noted. (U.S. Army Photos by Pfc. Lara Martinez, Chris.)

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii – Senior leaders from across the National Guard and the Indo-Pacific region gathered Sept. 15–19 for the annual State Partnership Program forum hosted by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

The State Partnership Program pairs U.S. states and territories with partner nations’ militaries and security forces, creating enduring relationships that directly support combatant command priorities. These partnerships strengthen cooperation, enhance readiness, and provide unique opportunities for Guardsmen and their counterparts to work side by side on shared challenges.

USINDOPACOM recognizes the global significance of the Asia-Pacific region and understands that challenges are best met together.

“Together we are strong and united in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” said U.S. Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Rodger Waters, Nevada’s adjutant general. “Every activity we do is aligned with the theater campaign plan and the individual country plans for our partner nations.”

According to U.S. Army Lt. Col. Alexander Park, director of the State Partnership Program at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, this year’s forum expanded its focus beyond purely military matters. The discussions incorporated a whole-of-society approach, recognizing that the National Guard represents not just military capability but also the civilian expertise and community ties necessary to understand the full spectrum of challenges across the Indo-Pacific.

Waters noted that the value of SPP goes both ways. “We may be training or educating our partners, but we learn just as much in return,” he said. “SPP continues to grow in its importance within the eyes of the combatant commands, not only here in Indo-Pacific Command, but globally.”

Park reinforced the enduring nature of these partnerships, emphasizing that the program is designed to build trust across nations and ensure the National Guard stands ready to support allies and partners when called upon. Looking ahead, Park plans to expand the forum’s scope even further in the coming year.
