Yesterday, we hosted New Employee and Teacher Orientation at the High Tech Center at Carson High School . 💙🤍💙 A total of 28 dedicated educators, two counselors and one speech pathologist joined the district. Welcome to Carson City. We look forward to a great school year.

The Carson High Cross-Country Team wrapped up its Youth Running Camp last week with races, and there were several winners, including Logan Hall (winner, boys half-mile), Emberlyn Orlick (winner, girls half-mile), Airalyn Orlick (winner, girls mile, in 7:00) and Brooks Baumgartner (winner, boys mile, in 6:11). Thanks to all who helped coach and those who participated.

🚫👓🚫 Beginning August 18, this coming 2026-2027 school year, students in the Carson City School District will not be permitted to wear or use smart glasses or other wearable electronic communication devices while on school campuses or during school-sponsored activities. 🚫👀🕶️🚫 This may include, but is not limited to, Google Glasses, Meta Ray-Ban glasses or similar devices from any manufacturer. Similar to smartphones, smart glasses are capable of transmitting, recording, receiving and sharing audio, images, video and other electronic communications. Unlike traditional prescription eyewear or sunglasses, smart glasses can discreetly record conversations, capture photographs, livestream video and communicate with others, which has raised concerns about classroom distractions, academic integrity and personal privacy. The Carson City Sheriff's Office reminds residents that high-powered electric dirt bikes are legally classified as motor vehicles. As such, they are illegal to operate on Carson City streets, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, public paths and community parks. Illegal operation of an electric motorcycle on public sidewalks or bicycle paths will result in traffic citations, and the vehicle may be immediately towed and impounded. Parents are reminded that they face misdemeanor citations if they permit unlicensed minors to operate unregistered motor vehicles on public property. Our district has completed, or is on track to complete by mid-August 2026, a series of campus improvement projects at schools and facilities across the district. The upgrades are designed to enhance learning environments, improve safety and accessibility, and support students and staff ahead of the 2026-27 school year. Makala Heyder of Carson City is one of 102 high school seniors selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Girls Nation July 18 to 25 in Washington, D.C. The weeklong program, founded in 1947, has provided civic education to thousands of students, teaching them about how the federal government works. Heyder is one of two participants representing Nevada as a “senator” at ALA Girls Nation. Two delegates from each ALA Girls State program are chosen to represent their state after participating in an ALA state-level program held across the country. At ALA Girls Nation, senators will participate in mock Senate sessions complete with caucuses and debating bills that range from personal to political interests. Heyder, a senior at Carson High, was active in many ways during her week at ALA Nevada Girls State. She also participates in many activities in her school and community, including National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, NJROTC and soccer.
