Congratulations Dolce Perez, April Student of the Month!

A big challenge for today’s teenage students is balancing going to school and doing well, maintaining a decent job and managing the many social demands of friends and family. Pioneer Academy senior Student of The Month, Dolce Perez, has spent the last few years perfecting this balancing act to find her ultimate happiness in life. Dolce is a Jumpstart student taking dual credit courses from Western Nevada College (WNC). She has completed all her graduation requirements and is now focusing on second and third level accounting classes. After graduation from Pioneer, Dolce plans to finish her associate of science from WNC then transfer to University of Nevada, Reno to earn a degree in accounting. Dolce also plans to become a certified licensed Esthetician. She enjoys working with numbers and tracking and recording data to make it useful but she also likes the creative, ever-changing world of makeup and skin therapy. Dolce recognizes that these are two very different interests but both give her tremendous satisfaction and she is confident she will be able to bring both into her life.

Maintaining a quality balance of school, work and life has not been easy. Dolce said she had to learn how to multitask to accomplish many of her goals and to help her find her joy she said “I’ve learned to prioritize my happiness a little more and spend time with friends and family.” Many of those friends and family members are a large part of her support network and are the reason the direction of her career interest. Dolce credits her supervisors Stan and Wendy for giving her the confidence by trusting her in her accounting position and planting the seed to become an accountant. She is also thankful for her family for always pushing her to do more for herself and never letting her quit on herself when things were difficult.

The Jumpstart program has made a major impact on Dulce’s direction and motivation and she thanks Mr. Jordan for challenging her to take on dual credit courses and having faith that she would be successful. Dulce also wanted to thank Mrs. Council for not only helping her be successful in navigating the world of online learning, but also being available for emotional support through many of the difficult times over the past few years. Dolce is a bright spotlight for the Pioneer family and we are proud of her accomplishments and we look forward to much more in her future. -By Cary Jordan

Congratulations to Ashley Ellis!Pioneer Academy Student of the Month for March ...

Congratulations to Ashley Ellis!
Pioneer Academy Student of the Month for March

Pioneer Academy’s March student of the month is sophomore online student Ashley Ellis. Ashley has thrived since she joined the Pioneer family mid-year of her ninth grade. She is currently taking multiple dual credit courses while maintaining a 3.95 GPA. As Ashley tackles the daily challenges of self-motivation and striving to improve herself, she sees knowledge as her cornerstone to success. “Success to me is built on knowledge, determination and a willingness to do something with yourself. I found success in my grades by building on knowledge I already had, and putting in the effort to make sure I keep them up.”

It is with this determination and drive that Ashley has found her direction and motivation to do her best to accomplish her goals. The journey hasn’t always been that easy. Like many students today, Ashley said anxiety has sometimes been a barrier to finding that smooth pathway to success. “My greatest obstacle so far has honestly been myself. I was so angry and confused with everything for so long that I kept getting in my own way. I overcame this by thinking about what I was doing, and eventually coming to the conclusion that I’d much rather be doing something else.” Now she doesn’t let anxiety prevent her from participating in activities like yoga and National honor society. Ashley also stated her appreciation for Mrs. Council, who has helped her be successful by showing her that she has great potential and always being there when she needed to send her an email asking for help.

Maintaining a balanced life is important to Ashley so she also prioritizes time for herself to explore her interests and develop friendships. She says she loves to read fantasy and fiction books with the occasional romance novel mixed in. Her reading also fuels her desire to write her own novels and poetry and one day publish her own book.

Ashley would like to finish high school by completing an AA degree from WNC in the Jumpstart program. She then plans to return to college to earn a registered nursing degree then specialize in midwifing and one day operate her own midwife practice.

Ashley is a creative and ambitious bright young star at Pioneer Academy with a determination to show her best to the world and we are looking forward to a couple more years of helping her reach her goals.
