This is an important message from the Washoe County School District.

The fires in our community continue to significantly impact our community with changing conditions and power outages.

In consultation with public safety officials, the following nine schools will remain closed on Thursday, August 13:

1. Desert Heights Elementary School
2. Silver Lake Elementary School
3. Lemmon Valley Elementary School
4. Alyce Taylor Elementary School
5. Jesse Hall Elementary School
6. Spanish Springs Elementary School
7. Natchez Elementary Schoo
8. Shaw Middle School
9. Spanish Springs High School

At this time, all other schools are scheduled to be in session on Thursday.

There will be no changes to bus transportation service. Transportation will continue Thursday exactly as it operated on Wednesday, August 12. Students who were assigned transportation on Wednesday will remain assigned transportation on Thursday, while students who did not have transportation Wednesday will not have bus service on Thursday.

We will continue to work with public safety officials and monitor this emergency impacting our community.

US-395 is CLOSED at the Nevada state line and now at North Constantia Road. HWY 70 is closed to east of HWY 49 (east of Portola Ca). Closure due to fire activity from the Bug Fire.
