Please join Chief Kevin Cloninger in welcoming Stephanie Mari to the Cartersville Police Department. Ms. Mari, who comes to us from another metro-Atlanta law enforcement agency, will oversee our state certification through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) and our newly attained accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). While Ms. Mari is new to CPD, she brings a wealth of experience in the accreditation field, as well as previous experience in emergency communications. Aside from being a certified accreditation manager through both of the aforementioned organizations, Ms. Mari is also certified to assess other law enforcement agencies in their journeys to achieving and maintaining those coveted certifications. The Cartersville Police Department is excited to have Ms. Mari lead the accreditation program for one of only 49 CALEA-accredited law enforcement agencies in Georgia.

This morning, several members of the Cartersville Police Department joined other local law enforcement agencies in attending the annual North Cobb Christian School Gratitude Banquet. This event, hosted by the NCCS Lower School, seeks to honor those who serve the community through prayer, student-led performances, and a hearty brunch. We were glad to share some fellowship with our brothers to the south at the Kennesaw Police Department, as well as North Cobb Christian’s Security Director. Thank you for the invitation, North Cobb Christian School. We can’t wait for next year’s banquet!

Please join Chief Kevin Cloninger in congratulating Captain Derek Bentley on completing the Chief Executive Training Program hosted by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. The program, often referred to as Chief’s School, is mandatory for all new Police Chiefs and optional for Command Staff members, if spots are available. For Command Staff personnel, the program aims to help these law enforcement managers better understand the challenges Police Chiefs face in various aspects of the job. The goal is for these law enforcement managers to return to their assignments with a better understanding of executive functions, enabling them to serve their agencies and communities more effectively and efficiently. See the press release below from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

Please join Chief Kevin Cloninger in congratulating School Resource Officer Dixie Tucker on being awarded Officer of the Year for 2025 by Elks Lodge #1969 - Cartersville. Officer Tucker was recognized for her dedication to serving the citizens of Cartersville and the students of Cartersville High School. One such instance of service came on October 24, 2025, when a student was struck by a vehicle near Cartersville High School. Without hesitation, Officer Tucker responded to the injured student and utilized a belt as a tourniquet to control the bleeding of a severe leg injury. Doctors from the trauma center where the student was treated relayed that if Officer Tucker had not stopped the bleeding from the leg injury, the student undoubtedly would not have survived. From all of us at the Cartersville Police Department, Congratulations on your award, Officer Tucker. We are proud to serve the City of Cartersville alongside you.

*** PRESS RELEASE ***

On Monday, January 19th, 2026, the Cartersville Police Department responded to 9 South Gilmer Street, Massage Time Body & Foot, for an assault that had just occurred. The victim stated that an unknown male came to the business and asked for a massage. Once inside a massage room, the suspect produced a knife and attempted to rob the business. A brief struggle ensued, and the victim was able to flee the business, at which time the suspect also fled the area. During the struggle, the victim received injuries consistent with those from a sharp object.

Once responding officers arrived at the scene, a preliminary investigation was conducted, yielding critical information about the suspect. That information was relayed to local law enforcement, leading to the location and detention of a suspect by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. Cartersville Police Officers were able to confirm that the person detained was in fact responsible for the assault that had occurred at Massage Time Body & Foot. As a result of this investigation, Jaiden Walraven was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Attempted Robbery, and Kidnapping. The Cartersville Police Department would like to thank the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in this investigation.

At this point, this is an active investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cartersville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 770-387-5690.
