Public Servants Appreciation Luncheon

Public Servants Appreciation Luncheon We annually host a Public Servants Appreciation Luncheon in Bartow County to benefit the many men and women who serve the community each and every day.

When this started in 2000, we were not sure we truly appreciated what these brave men and women do to help to make Bartow County such a wonderful place to live and work. The very next year, the 9-11 attack seemed to magnify in our minds why this is so important. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of volunteers to make this event successful. From refilling iced tea all the way to just being there t

o speak to those attending, this will be a day you will never forget. One of the treats for the attendees? The delicious homemade deserts; cakes, pies and cookies that people in the community have prepared. The luncheon program featuring the playing of taps, a three-volley salute and the last fire call will begin at noon. This is a very moving event that you do not want to miss.

As Christmas Day approaches, please consider the following that was borrowed from another Combat Veteran:
If you have a Combat Veteran in your family (or a group of close friends) and you don’t like their moods and behavior around the holidays, please consider these six things:
1.) Your combat veteran has served in countries where people are blessed to receive a tattered pair of shoes or have clean water to drink; they no longer live the “first world illusion” and no longer care that if you buy one play station, you can get a second one for fifty percent off. In fact, they find it hard to appreciate any of the gluttonous commercialism and overindulgence that permeates American holidays. Standing watch, boring as it was, had so much more purpose than going to the mall.
#
2.) Your Combat Veteran is thankful for the most basic things, not thankful for mega-sales and million-dollar parades. They are thankful to be alive, thankful to have survived both the wars far away and the wars they struggle with inside.
#
3.) Your Combat Veteran is thankful that it wasn't them that got killed, but their celebrations are forever complicated by guilt and loss over those that were. Some of the most thankful times in their life were some of the scariest. Their feelings of thanks and celebration often conjure memories that are equally painful.
4.) Your Combat Veteran is not like you anymore. At some point, for some period of time, their entire life boiled down to just three simple things: when will I eat today, when will I sleep today, and who will I have to kill or will try to kill me today? They are not like you anymore.
5.) Your Combat Veteran does not need a guilt trip or a lecture; they already feel detached in their grief while others so easily embrace the joy of the season. They need understanding and space, empathy, not sympathy.
6.) Your Combat Veteran does love their family and is thankful for the many blessings in their life…and they are thankful for you.
To all my brothers and sisters of the uniform, know that we all struggle with one thing or another, but as we go into this holiday season, reach out to those you love. You didn't fight alone on the battlefield, and we don't have to fight alone at home.

Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
May God continue to bless everyone who He loves and created!
I love you and appreciate your service if you served, and I sincerely request your prayers, support, and encouragement during this challenging time for all!

I am going to a Falcons game this month and need a recommendation as to where to park. There are several places that I can buy a parking pass but not sure where to go

You know how much I love great quotes. Well, here is one that resonates even more today:

There is but one answer to terrorism and it is best delivered with a Wi******er rifle.

Our Annual public Servants Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Thursday September 7th from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M. at the Cartersville Civic Center.
I need your help. Please "share" on facebook.
As you can imagine, there is a lot to do to make this event a success. Serving roughly 1,700 people, volunteers are needed to help with serving, tea refills and "just thanking these men and women for what they do" for our county.
In addition, one of the big hits last year was the homemade desserts that some people prepared. If you could help in that regard, it would be deeply appreciated.
Nothing like a homemade pie, cake, cookies, or brownies.
The meal will be T-bone steak with trimmings catered by Flavorful Events, Banana pudding from Cody J's and other homemade desserts.
All persons that work for Bartow County, any of the Cities within Bartow County, and other state and federal employees are invited. The luncheon provides a free steak meal to any public servant, working or retired, and all widows or widowers of a public servant.
This event is a "THANK YOU" to our public servants for their many years of support and service to our community
This is your opportunity to let our public servants know how much we appreciate their service.
***You are welcome to stand at the front door and speak to each person that attends and thank them for their service.***
***You are welcome to volunteer to refill tea and any other opportunities. All volunteers eat free !! ****
Thank you for your friendship and support.
May God Bless You, Your Family, Our Community, And Our Nation
