Thanks to those that offered support, contributed funds, held signs, or any other kind of encouragement. Running for office was a great experience. While I certainly had hoped for a victory, I am at peace with the outcome because I was obedient to God. Thanks to all who offered themselves for office. I enjoyed getting to know you through this process. I wish Sheriff Millsap a healthy and happy future. Thanks to Steve Holloway for the strong campaign he offered. While my desire is to continue in public service, I am simply waiting to see where God will lead. Until then, thanks to Vivian, Lee luke, Joe, Matt, Christian, Donna, Doug, Bradley, Ralph, John, Jessica, Nick, Earl, Dee, Grace Baptist Church, and most certainly Addie. This site will soon close so thanks again. I hope to see you all later on!

Campaigns are often launched with large bank accounts massive debt to banks or others. I have run a very frugal campaign, with NO debt accumulated and spending strategically. I spend money donated by others as carefully as I have spent my own. My commitment is to spend tax payer dollars wisely. Using every dollar with purpose.

Remember, the polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm tomorrow, Tuesday May 24th. Please exercise your privilege to vote. Thank you for all the support and encouragement. Together we will make Bartow County a wonderful place to live, work and play!

Thank You!

To The Citizens of Bartow County:

As a candidate for the office of Sheriff of Bartow County, I would like to share my vision for the Sheriff’s Department.

● Within the first six months of taking office, I will assess the organization and initiate the state certification process. This has massive positive implications for Bartow citizens and the department employees, by providing certified adherence to the highest standards.
● I will work to build strong relationships with all law enforcement agencies in the county. Every agency has something to offer. We can work together for the common good of the county.
● I will be available. An appointment will not be necessary to speak with me in person. My door will be open to employees, citizens, and others agencies.

Finally, I commit to the citizens of Bartow County the following:

● I will not participate in the county retirement system. I am not seeking additional retirement.
● I will not participate in the county medical insurance plan. I am not seeking additional medical coverage.
● I will go into office at the established pay rate of a first term sheriff and will not accept any raises during my time in office. All such savings shall be allocated throughout the department.

My single and driving interest is to serve as your Sheriff. My passion is for the safety and concerns of you, the citizen taxpayer.
I trust you will strongly consider my commitment to you on May 24th when you go to the polls.

Sincerely,

Tommy Culpepper
Candidate for Sheriff of Bartow County

Until this legislative session, it was technically illegal for a city or county to "give" a retiring officer their badge and gun. Anything purchased with public funds must be disposed of publicly. However, after I discussed this with Sen. Bruce Thompson and brought his attention to the matter he diligently worked for and passed legislation that will permit local governments, if they wish, to allow retiring officers to keep their duty weapon and badge (SB263). While this is voluntary on the part of the local governing authority, it is certainly a reasonable reward for an officer that has served an honorable career. This legislation was signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal. On behalf of all future retiring officers, thanks to Sen. Bruce Thompson for his work and support of law enforcement in our community and across the state.

I seem to keep hearing about the prayer issue and former employees. Since someone out there seems to have nothing better to talk about let me put that one to rest: that is a personnel issue and I will not discuss it in a public forum. However, I can comment generally on the issue.

There was the very real possibility of a conflict arising and therefore it was not in the best interest of the community. Here is a simple way to look at it, if your mother, daughter or wife was r***d, assaulted or molested, would you want the case to be dismissed because of a perceived conflict of interest that could have been easily avoided? It is not an issue about faith, it is an issue of doing the job I, and others peace officers, swore to do. We live in a country that lives by the rule of law, and the law of the land dominates. When those laws are in direct conflict with my faith I ensure that I will step aside rather than violate the law. As of yet I have never been faced with the choice of faith over the law.

Remember 1 Peter 2:13-15. HCSB. I trust that this is sufficient for this topic. Thanks to those that understand.

While we certainly agree that there should be a public venue where the citizens can openly participate and ask questions to the candidates we are disappointed that this event has no neutrality. The ad for the forum failed to mention that it was an advertisement from a candidate. It is disappointing that there was zero discussion with myself or the other candidate of an agreeable time, place, format, and neutral moderators when this event was planned. It has also been presented by the host candidate as a “Challenge” to the other candidates. The only challenge I am interested in accepting is the challenge of taking The Bartow County Sheriff Office to a position of Excellence where it will be viewed as a benchmark amongst law enforcement agencies throughout the state and Southeast. The Citizens of Bartow County deserve nothing less than the best.
