If you live in one of the counties below, your property taxes are due Tuesday, March 3.

Do not wait until the last minute. Late payments can result in penalties and additional costs.

IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION‼️

Governor Reeves has signed a proclamation that extends the deadline for Mississippians in the 49 impacted counties to submit ad valorem taxes to county tax collectors & delays fines for not submitting them.

Typically, all taxes must be paid by February 1st of each year before penalties start to accrue. Due to the circumstances with the weather this year, the NEW DEADLINE to pay ad valorem taxes is March 3, 2026.

I’ve signed a proclamation that extends the deadline for Mississippians in the 49 impacted counties to submit ad valorem taxes to county tax collectors and delays fines for not submitting them.

The new deadline to pay ad valorem taxes in the impacted counties is March 3, 2026.

The impacted counties include:
Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Coahoma, Desoto, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Itawamba, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leake, Leflore, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Newton, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Rankin, Smith, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkinson, Yalobusha and Yazoo.

Due to the uncertainty regarding road conditions early tomorrow morning, our office will be delaying our opening until 10:00 am on Monday, January 26th 2026.

If the road conditions worsen overnight, our office will more than likely be closed for the remainder of the day. We encourage everyone to listen to your local weather officials & stay safe. Please pray for all of our emergency personnel that are out in these conditions!

Homestead exemption applications are now being accepted at your local Tax Assessor's office.

Did you purchase a new home last year? Did you have any changes that may affect your current homestead exemption status? If so, make sure you file your homestead exemption application before the April 1 deadline.

Homestead exemption is a property tax exemption that can reduce the annual property taxes on an eligible applicant’s primary home.

The Leake County Tax Assessor/Collector’s Office will CLOSE for the Christmas holidays at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 24th. We will reopen on Monday, December 29th at 8:00 am.

Our office will CLOSE for the New Year’s holidays at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 31st. We will reopen on Monday, January 5th at 8:00 am.

Scam Alert: Phishing Scams Target Mississippi Taxpayers via Text Message ​

The Mississippi Department of Revenue is warning Mississippi taxpayers of ongoing nationwide text scams that are hitting our state. ​

The department has received reports of a scam targeting taxpayers through text messages that appear to be from the Department of Revenue or the Department of Motor Vehicles and may state that your refund has been approved and ask for payment information and/or include a warning regarding unpaid traffic violations, outstanding toll charges, or fines owed. ​

These scams are designed to trick you into providing personal details, banking information and/or credit card information. ​

These texts are NOT from the Mississippi Department of Revenue and are NOT LEGITIMATE. The department will NEVER request payment or request personal banking information via text message. ​

If you receive one of these phishing texts, take the following action: ​
• Do not click on any links in the text ​
• Do not respond to the text ​
• Delete the text​
