Leake County Soil & Water Conservation District The Leake County SWCD partners with the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Helping People Help the Land by preserving our natural resources.

We promote educating students and landowners through field days , contests, newsletters and much more. Commissioners:

The Leake County SWCD is governed by five Commissioners. Three are elected in a district (c

ounty) wide election by landowners. Two are appointed by the MS Soil and Water Conservation Commission upon recommendations of the SWCD board of commissioners. Each district is authorized to appoint five deputy commissioners. These commissioners serve without pay to carry out a cooperative program that addresses the natural resource concerns of the district.

On June 17th, the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the Central Area Summer Meeting of the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts.

We are excited to announce that several residents from Leake County were recognized with awards:

**Zac and Kevin Kemp** received the Outstanding Cropland Conservationist Award.
**Dale and Mary Ann Edgar** were honored as Outstanding Wildlife Conservationists.
**Mitch Johnston** of Pine Top Farm won the Livestock Environmental Stewardship Award.
We were also privileged to have **Senator Lane Taylor** from District 18 serve as our keynote speaker.

A special acknowledgement goes to **Justin Polk** from the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission for the great photos.

Additionally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to **Jerry Smith** and **Harvin Hudson** for providing an exceptional meal.

๐ŸŒฑ **Exciting News from the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Youth Camp!** ๐ŸŒฑ
This year, weโ€™re thrilled to highlight that three outstanding students from Leake County attended the MSWCC Youth Camp: *Emily Stewart, Jack Pilgrim, and Ella Stewart*. Let's celebrate their commitment to learning about conservation! ๐ŸŒโœจ

The annual Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Youth Camp, proudly sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) with support from The Soil & Water Conservation Commission (MSWCC), USDA/NRCS, and local Soil & Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), is a fantastic opportunity for our youth!

This camp aims to educate participants about our invaluable natural resources. Eligibility is open to students entering grades 10, 11, or 12, as well as recent graduates. Plus, students are welcome to attend the camp multiple times!

*Applications for the Youth Camp** must be submitted through your local Soil & Water Conservation District.
