Carthage Volunteer Fire Department We are a Fire Department family committed to providing our community with rapid and professional response to all fire and medical emergencies.

We recognize the value of ongoing education & training as well as fire prevention for our community. Carthage Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1953 with thirty-three members. The fire department joined the Indiana Volunteer Firemen's Association on July 12th, 1954. On November 9th, 1961, the fire department was incorporated and became known as Carthage Volunteer Fire Department of Rush County, Inc. They had eight board of directors, three incorporators, two vehicles, and fifty dollars. The fire department and EMS Association met in September 1997 to discuss and vote on a possible merger. The vote was unanimous and the merge took place on January 1st, 1998. As of today there are six fire trucks, two ambulances, and twenty-eight members.

Yesterday, CVFD was given a great opportunity to go over fire safety during fire safety week to an awesome class of students. We went over the importance of fire safety and how to Stop, Drop, and Roll. In the event of a fire we also showed the students that they should not be scared to see a firefighter in their gear as it may look scary to some. The students also were all so excited to spray some water out of the hose. We look forward to helping more students learn about fire safety.

Coming from a line of Firefighters, 17 year old Cadet Mason Ramsey has a goal to follow his family's footsteps in the fire service. He is currently going to Richmond High School where he is attending Fire 1 and 2 class and is eager to help his community. He joined CVFD so he can broaden his knowledge and experience. Mason is also a cadet at Boston Volunteer Fire Department so he is able to help as many people as he can. Please join us in welcoming him to the team.

CVFD was honored to have been invited to participate in a funeral of a member of the department. Unfortunately we lost William "Bill" Clements just a few days ago. He was on the department for 28 years providing so much of his time to help his community. We will forever remember Bill.
