**SCAM WARNING**

A property owner of 206 D Carlton St became aware of a fraudulent rental listing falsely advertising the residence for rent. The posting claimed the home was available for $750 per month and required a $75 “viewing fee.”

The scam listing appeared under the name Northrop Realty, with a suppose realtor named Mary. This listing was NOT legitimate, and the property is not being rented by Northrop Realty or anyone associated with them. The post has since been taken down.

Photos have been provided showing the false listing.

⚠️ Please be aware of rental scams disguised as real opportunities.

Scammers often:

-Use well-known realty company names to appear credible
-Request unusual “viewing fees” or ask for deposits before allowing a tour
-Offer rental prices far below market value
-Communicate only through email, text, or messaging apps
-Press for quick payments to “secure” a property

If you come across any suspicious rental listings, especially involving locations in town, please avoid engaging, do not send money, and report the listing to the platform immediately.

✔️How to protect yourself:

-Verify listings directly on the official real estate company’s website
-Never pay fee fees before physically viewing a property
-Search for the property address online to see if duplicate scam listings exist
-Ask for proper identification from realtors
-When in doubt, contact the property owner management company directly

🚸 Traffic Safety Reminder for Parents & Guardians 🚸

The Carthage Police Department is asking for your help in keeping our neighborhoods safe—especially those near New Century Middle School.

We’ve received concerns about an increasing number of vehicles using nearby residential streets as unofficial pick-up zones during school dismissal. While we understand the desire to avoid long lines, this practice creates safety risks for children who live in these neighborhoods and walk home.

🏡 These neighborhoods are not designated pick-up areas.
🚶‍♂️ Children walking home deserve a safe and predictable environment.
📋 Please follow the official school pick-up procedures provided by New Century Middle School.
👮‍♂️ Officers will be present in these areas as a reminder, but please be aware that enforcement action may be taken if the issue continues. Our goal is safety—not citations—but we must prioritize the well-being of our children and community.

Hello everyone would like to say Welcome back to school to all of our Bulldogs at Carthage Elementary School. Wanted to remind everyone that Rockingham St. becomes one-way during school drop-off and pick-up. Also during drop-off, it is a single line, and during pick-up two lines. Please see the attached diagrams. Thank you to all the awesome staff that assist us in keeping our kids safe.

The 35th Annual Buggy Festival is tomorrow Saturday, May 11th from 9am to 4pm. Please keep this in mind if traveling through Carthage. We will have the roads blocked off early, please be patient and observant of the road closed and detour signs. Here is a map of the traffic pattern during the festival.
