I had the chance to meet with Aaron Del Mar yesterday and hear more about the fight to bring property taxes down in Illinois. Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar have laid out a Blueprint for Illinois that gets to the heart of the problem: government keeps spending more, mandating more, and then reaching deeper into the pockets of working families to pay for it.

Too many people want to pretend property taxes are just a local issue, but that is only half the story. Springfield piles on unfunded mandates, shifts burdens onto school boards and local governments, and then expects taxpayers to keep bailing out a system that refuses to live within its means. The Local Government Distributive Fund matters too, because local communities depend on that revenue to help keep basic services functioning.

That reality showed up again last night in my home county, where ambulance service needs a serious rethink. Whether the solution is more personnel, better training, better equipment, continuing education, or an outside agency handling 24/7/365 ALS coverage, the truth is simple: quality service costs money. But families and small businesses are already tapped out, and they should not be asked to fund a broken system forever.

Illinois needs a return to limited government, fiscal discipline, and respect for taxpayers. The answer is not endless tax hikes, more bureaucracy, or more excuses from Springfield. We need leaders who will cut the waste, stop shifting costs onto local communities, and give working families room to breathe. I believe Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar can help lead that change.

Awful: $1.5 billion your road fund dollars has been removed from downstate Illinois and being shifted to Chicago.

The new funding formula passed by Democrats and signed into law by JB. Pritzker is now in effect.

If you live outside of Cook County, expect fewer road repairs and greater danger on the roadways due to the funding shift.

—Previous funding allocation: 55% Downstate / 45% Chicago

—New funding formula: 85% for Chicago / 15% for downstate

The new formula went into effect on July 1st as a result of passage of Senate bill 2111

[Q: Does the City of Chicago deserve priority when it comes to Illinois road dollars?]

This means that lots of local road projects in areas outside of the City of Chicago may be cancelled or delayed significantly

The money shift also affects funds for the Illinois tollway, which is one of the reasons why the tollway is seeking to hike tolls from $.75 to $1.20.
Bail out: The new law shifts $1.5 billion in annual funding from the state’s road fund to Brandon Johnson’s Chicago public transportation.

Downstate road projects in areas outside of the City of Chicago are expected to be cancelled or significantly delayed going forward.

The shift of funding part of a Democrat legislative overhaul passed to bail out and reorganize Chicago-area public transportation. This legislation severely alters how Illinois' motor fuel tax and Road Fund interest are distributed. The state infrastructure allocation formula is now altered to move road funding to Chicago mass transit.

We agree, Mary!

It’s wild how Pritzker can lie to millions of people and keep a straight face. He has made life more affordable?! We don’t know about you, but our cost of living has increased exponentially since he has been in office - never decreased. Our home and auto insurance has increased - never decreased. The lies just don’t stop. Kind of like when he claims every year that Illinois has “a balanced budget.”

People ask all the time: “What do Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar actually stand for?”

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ll fight for on Day One:

âś… Cap property taxes at 1% (like Iowa and Indiana). A $300,000 home would pay no more than $3,000 in property taxes.

âś… Conduct a top-to-bottom audit of the Illinois budget and reform the Central Management Services (CMS) purchasing system.

âś… Audit every taxpayer-funded NGO to ensure accountability and eliminate waste.

âś… Freeze the Illinois income tax for a minimum of 2 years.

âś… Fully fund law enforcement to keep our communities safe.

✅ Make data centers pay their fair share for energy and water so families aren’t stuck with higher utility bills.

âś… Fully fund education at the local level while ensuring positive educational outcomes by focusing on student achievement, academic excellence, classroom discipline, parental involvement, and preparing every graduate for college, a skilled trade, military service, or the workforce.

âś… Protect government pensions and keep them secure for current and future retirees.

This is about making Illinois affordable again, restoring accountability, and putting families first.
