Town of Carthage, North Carolina

Town of Carthage, North Carolina Established in 1796, Carthage serves as the Moore County seat. Carthage, the county seat for Moore County, was incorporated in 1796.

The name was changed to Fagansville in 1806 in honor of Richardson Fagin for letting the county seat be moved from his house to another tract of land he donated to the county. The name was changed back to Carthage in 1818. The exact reason is unknown, but we've been called Carthage ever since.

🚧 Downtown Phase 1 Traffic Update 🚧

The traffic control plan for the downtown project has been revised.

Rather than a full traffic circle closure, closures/construction will occur in phases as previously described:

✅ Southern half of circle closed first (approximately 3-4 weeks)
✅ Northern half closed second (approximately 3-4 weeks)

The first closure will begin Monday, August 31st.

The contractor's goal is to keep part of the circle open throughout the project and avoid a full closure whenever possible.

A full circle closure could become necessary if safety concerns arise for workers or equipment, but the Town will receive advance notice and communicate any changes as early as possible.

We appreciate your patience as these important improvements are completed. If you have questions, please visit our website and view our Community Project page (link below) or call Town Hall Monday through Friday 8am-5pm.

The Town of Carthage is once again partnering with the American Red Cross to host a local Blood Drive. We have, as a community, been very successful in helping replenish the inventory of life-saving blood for our friends, family, and neighbors. Now we need to pull together more than ever to help those in need.

As of Monday, July 27th, the American Red Cross announced a nationwide blood crisis due to donations not keeping pace with hospital demand. Their inventory of type O blood is especially dire and this is just the second time in their history, they’ve declared a national blood crisis.

Please consider donating on Thursday, August 20th at the Carthage Fire & Rescue (4396 US 15-501 Hwy). You can register at www.redcrossblood.org. Thank you for your support. Give the gift of life!
