Well ... the forecast isn't good. It's gonna get COLD!!! Please, remember to keep anything that will burn at least 3 feet from space heaters and be fire safe! Check your smoke detectors -- If it's been more than 6 months, replace the batteries -- If the detector is more than 10-years old, replace it! Be extremely careful with extension cords, propane and kerosene heaters, etc. -- and if you use these, remember to check your CO (carbon monoxide) detector. It is our hope that no one else ever faces the loss of a home or a loved one due to fire. As always, we stand ready to help, but we hope and pray that you never need us. Oh, and if you don't absolutely, positively, have to get out in this mess, please don't! God bless!

It's been 24 years. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing? Do you remember the sadness, the grief, the horror, that day? If you do, tell a generation that has grown up since then. Tell them how you felt. Tell them that we swore to "Never Forget" -- although sadly, many of us seem to have done just that -- we've forgotten. But 9/12/2001 is a day we also need to remember, how this country -- ALL of us -- came together. We were One. We were Americans. There was no division then. We were One. Tell the generation that has grown up since then about 9/12 also --- both dates are too important NOT to remember. Considering the event yesterday, it's more important than ever, so ... While we're at at, let's remind each other of those days ------ because Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand (Mt. 12:25 KJV). We may be at that breaking point --- so stand for something, even if it means sacrificing everything! God bless you, and God bless the USA.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Hoyte Hale’s family and Dekalb EMS and Smithville Fire. Hoyte was a good friend, and a really good man. He worked here for Smith County EMS a while back. He has made a difference in so many lives.

We remember where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001. We watched as terrorists attacked our country, striking the “Twin Towers” in New York, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania where United Flight 93 crashed, after on-board heroes, in a life-and-death struggle, prevented that plane from reaching its target. That morning, our world changed.
It’s been 23 years. Our children are too young to remember. It’s our duty to teach them, and future generations, about the events of 9/11 and how, afterward, we came together, as a people, as Americans. United, not divided.
Maybe we need to be reminded as well. … Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: (Matthew 12:25 KJV)
Never Forget!

Miss you Chief

August 1, 2004 - LODD
Chief Edward Hayes Stallings, 71
Carthage Fire Department. Carthage, Tennessee
Chief Stallings and the members of his fire department responded to a report of a structure fire in a church. A heat gun being used to remove old paint from a window had ignited materials inside of the wall. Firefighters arrived and saw flames visible from the exterior of the structure. The front entry to the church was forced open, and firefighters found flame showing from an interior wall. In the meantime, the fire had extended into the attic of the church. The attic had an accumulation of approximately 2 inches of coal dust from the time when the church was heated with a coal furnace. Chief Stalling was standing outside the building observing operations. Chief Stallings saw a rapidly developing fire and moved toward the building. As he moved toward the building, the front façade of the building fell outward and collapsed on top of Chief Stallings and 2 other firefighters. Chief Stallings took the brunt of the collapse since he was further away from the building. Chief Stallings was transported by helicopter to a regional hospital. He died as a result of his injuries on August 1, 2004.

Once again, we’ve had a citizen contact us with questions concerning donations to their “local fire department.” To our knowledge, NO ONE and NO ORGANIZATION is soliciting funds for us here in Carthage. We certainly haven’t received any donations! While we are grateful for our citizens and their desire to help us, beware of phone solicitations that claim they are collecting for your “local fire department.” VERIFY with someone that you know – and trust – before you give anyone your hard-earned dollars!

Vietnam Veterans Day: A Tribute to Bravery and Sacrifice
As we approach March 29th, we're reminded of the significance of National Vietnam Veterans Day, a day dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who served in Vietnam.

This year we mark the 51st anniversary of our troops returning home. It's a day to reflect on the bravery, resilience, and sacrifice of the Vietnam veterans who served our country during one of its most challenging periods.

Today, it's more important than ever to express our gratitude and ensure their legacy is remembered. Take a moment to thank those who have served, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to our nation's history.

We have had 3 messages this morning concerning an individual who claims to be connected (in some way) to this Department, and who is sending inappropriate messages to other individuals. I won't give this person the 15 seconds of "fame" by naming him, but he is NOT affiliated with this Department in any way, shape, form or manner. We do not -- and will not -- condone or tolerate this type behavior from our people. However, he is NOT one of us. Feel free to contact FaceBook to report him.
