Stop by and visit Carthage Fire Rescue today at Food Lion for our Hot Car Safety Display!
Did you know the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise to deadly levels in just minutes—even with the windows cracked? Every year, children and pets suffer preventable heat-related injuries and deaths because they were left in hot vehicles.
Our display demonstrates just how dangerous the inside of a vehicle can become. We encourage everyone to stop by, ask questions, and learn simple steps that can save a life.
Remember: ✅ Look before you lock. ✅ Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle. ✅ If you see a child alone in a hot car, call 911 immediately.
Together, we can help prevent these tragedies and keep our community safe.

🌡️ TEMPORARY COOLING STATION OPEN IN MOORE COUNTY 🌡️

Due to forecasted extreme temperatures, Moore County is opening a temporary Cooling Station to provide residents with a safe, air-conditioned place to cool down during the hottest part of the day.

📍 Location: Moore County Sports Complex
155 Hillcrest Park Lane, Carthage, NC

📅 Dates: Thursday, July 2 – Monday, July 6, 2026
🕐 Hours: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM daily

Please check on family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat, including older adults and those without air conditioning.

Heat Safety Tips:
✅ Drink plenty of water.
✅ Limit outdoor activities during peak heat.
✅ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
✅ Never leave children or pets in vehicles.

🚒 NOW HIRING: FULL-TIME DRIVER/OPERATOR 🚒

Carthage Fire & Rescue is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Driver/Operator position.

We are looking for motivated, dedicated individuals ready to serve the Town of Carthage with professionalism and pride. This position plays a critical role in emergency response, including operating fire apparatus, performing pump operations, and supporting fire suppression, rescue, and EMS activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• NC Firefighter Certification
• Driver/Operator Certification
• Valid Class B Driver’s License (or higher)
• EMT-B Certification

Responsibilities include:
• Safe operation and maintenance of fire apparatus
• Performing pump operations at emergency scenes
• Daily equipment and apparatus checks
• Supporting all emergency response functions

🚨 STATEWIDE BURN BAN IN EFFECT – STARTING TODAY AT 6PM 🚨

Carthage Fire Rescue wants to make everyone aware that the N.C. Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban for all 100 counties, effective 6:00 PM today (Saturday, March 28, 2026) and continuing until further notice.

🔥 WHAT THIS MEANS:
• All open burning is prohibited statewide
• All burn permits are canceled
• No new permits will be issued

This includes burning:
🍂 Leaves, limbs, and yard debris
🔥 Campfires and burn piles
🛢️ Burn barrels

🚫 NOT ALLOWED DURING THE BAN:
• Open burning of any kind (outside of limited exceptions)
• Fireworks and pyrotechnics
• Campfires while camping

✅ WHAT IS STILL ALLOWED:
• Grills and BBQs (where local ordinances allow)
• Portable gas stoves

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
• Violations can result in a $100 fine + court costs
• You may also be held financially responsible for fire suppression costs
• Fires within 100 feet of a residence may fall under local restrictions — check with your local fire marshal

With dry conditions, low humidity, and increased wildfire risk, it is critical that we all do our part to prevent fires.
