The Steele Fire Department would like to express our deepest condolences to the Gilbert family. Chief Gilbert, thank you for your 60 years of fire service, with 35 of those years serving as Fire Chief. Mr. Gilbert, you have touched the lives of every firefighter that has walked through the doors of the Steele Fire Department. Your knowledge of firefighting was outstanding, and we will continue to pass on the knowledge that you instilled into our firefighters. At this time, we would like to retire Steele Fire Department 801 from our roster in respect to Chief Gilbert and his family.

Sincerely,
Chief Jeffery Fields

Last night we held our annual Christmas Dinner at the Caruthersville Fire Department. This dinner is always a great time for us and our families to come together to celebrate another year, to reflect on the fire calls that were answered throughout the year, and of course to see what early Christmas gifts Santa has brought for the kids. As always, the food was great and the night was enjoyed by all. During the dinner, Assistant Chief Kevin Curtis was awarded for making the most fire calls for the year and Lieutenant Troy Meals was awarded for his 20 years of service.

Thank you to all of our firefighters and their families for the time they gave to the CFD this year as we had a higher call volume than any other year on record with 176 total calls. With the year coming to a close, the CFD now brings their total combined years of experience to over 448 years. That is a testament to the dedication and commitment of each and every firefighter and their families but also in part to the support that we are given from our City Council and this community every year. Many thanks to all and we look forward to continuing to serve all of you in 2026!

Today was a powerful reminder of what community and brotherhood truly mean.

When the call for help came from Sikeston, we answered. Our crew went to cover their station so their firefighters could honorably attend the funeral of their fallen officer.

This left our own station short-staffed, but without hesitation, the Caruthersville Fire Department answered our call. They came to our town to ensure our community remained protected. We also extend our sincere thanks to the Senath Fire Department for being ready to assist if needed.

This chain of mutual aid—one department helping another, so they can help a third—is the very heart of the fire service.

In the midst of a difficult day, we were also blessed by the kindness of our community. A heartfelt thank you to Domino's for their generous donation of pizza to our firefighters.

From our department to Sikeston, to Caruthersville, to Senath, and to our local businesses—thank you. We are proud to be part of such a strong and supportive family.
