Welcome to Heart to Heart! Help us fill the TAP community with love.

Each February, we share messages that uplift and support the TAP community. We invite you to share your words of encouragement and help remind people with aphasia that they are seen, supported, and not alone. You can purchase a heart for $10 (or 6 for $50) at AphasiaProject.org/HeartToHeart šŸ’Œ

This year, Heart to Heart is dedicated to supporting TAP’s scholarship program. Your purchase of a heart helps reduce financial barriers to participation, ensuring that people with aphasia can continue to access life-changing conversation groups — regardless of their financial circumstances. Each heart represents connection, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves a voice and a place to belong.

We’re excited to welcome two wonderful new members to TAP’s Board of Directors: Byron Stallings and Julia Mangum! šŸŽ‰ Both bring valuable experience, thoughtful insight, and a strong commitment to our mission.

Their perspectives and leadership will play an important role as we continue to grow our programs and deepen our impact for people living with aphasia. We’re grateful to have them join the TAP community and look forward to the meaningful work ahead together. Welcome to the team! šŸ’ššŸ—£ļø

Due to Winter Storm Fern and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to cancel TAP’s in-person groups on Monday January 26th. Both 9:30am and 10:30am Conversation (at Glenaire) are cancelled. For now, only Monday in-person groups are cancelled. All other groups next week will still happen. Please check your email for any further updates. Stay safe and warm!

In 2025, TAP delivered over 10,000 hours of aphasia services—our highest annual total to date. That’s over 10,000 opportunities for life-changing communication recovery. With approximately 1,200 more service hours than in 2024, programs continued to thrive week after week, supporting hundreds of individuals with aphasia across North Carolina. In addition, TAP led more than 15 aphasia trainings for families and professionals, expanding impact beyond our groups and into everyday life.

This work happens week after week because of people who believe in the power of communication and connection. Thank you for being part of it. 🧔 Here’s to 2026! šŸ—£ļø

Day 6 and our final day of Gifting Communication! šŸ’¬šŸ’™ Andy, a TAP Board member, experienced an unexpected stroke at age 44, resulting in aphasia. While he has made a remarkable recovery, he emphasizes the ongoing need for rehabilitation and support for adults living with aphasia. Andy reinforces TAP’s mission of fostering communication, community, and connection. He encourages viewers to give the gift of communication by providing an end-of-year donation to support TAP’s programs. AphasiaProject.org/Donate

This wraps up Gifting Communication 2025! You’ve heard the stories. You’ve seen the impact. Your support helps ensure TAP can continue providing life-changing services for people with aphasia. Thank you so much for tuning in and for being part of this work. We could not do it without you.

Day 5 of Gifting Communication! šŸ’¬šŸ’™ Terry experienced his first stroke in February 2022, resulting in aphasia, followed by another in December 2024 that temporarily slowed his progress—a discouraging experience for him. He continues to attend the in-person Wake Forest group on Tuesdays and two virtual groups on Wednesdays, TAP into Word Games and TEDTalks. Terry says he looks forward to his weekly groups and enjoys getting to know fellow members. He reminds others with aphasia that there is a lot of help and support available.
Help individuals with aphasia like Terry by making a donation at aphasiaproject.org/donate.
