At 5:23 am on the early morning of September 5th, Regional Fire & Rescue Department was dispatched with AMR to a 2 vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 287 and State Route 87 south of Coolidge, at the LaPalma intersection. Engine-587 responded with Sr. Captain John Bayles and FF/EMT Nate Mulcock.

Upon arrival with AMR Ambulance, they found two patients, one now being attended to by AMR. The other vehicle was found on its roof, which had rolled over several times before coming to rest next to the old LaPalma Market.

E587 crew had discovered an immediate category, severely injured driver, still trapped and belted, hanging upside down in the vehicle with a diminished level of consciousness.

E587 crew stabilized the vehicle, removed both doors with hydraulic extrication tools and were able to extricate, treat and stabilize the patient in preparation for AirEvac 6 to fly the patient to a trauma center. The patient had an obvious upper arm fracture and a suspected closed head injury due to decreased LOC and a fixed leftward gaze.

Although they will tell you they were just "doing their job" the skill and competency to have rapidly extricated and stabilized this patient in preparation for transport, and to have handled the landing zone (once a 2nd ambulance arrived to assist with the patient) - is above and beyond the call of duty and reflects exceptional skills and professionalism in evaluating the situation and taking swift actions which expedited the treatment and evacuation of the patient from the scene, all to afford this victim the greatest chance for his life and in the hopes of acheiving a successful outcome!

At 7:54 pm on 7/28/25 (Monday Evening) Regional Fire & Rescue Department was dispatched to 5944 N. Pinal Ave to Casa Grande RV Sales for a commercial fire assignment.

Engine-586 lead by Lt. Giorgio Alvarez along with FFT James Steele and EMT Student Brianna W. Responded to the scene. Car-586 arrived on scene snd found a small commercial building that was hot and charged with heavy black smoke emitting from the tops of two 14' roll up bay doors.

Car-586 put out a manpower page and requested mutual aid response from Casa Grande Fire.

Engine 586 arrived on scene, chief opened the door and both crew made entry and achieved a quick knockdown of the fire and managed to open one of the bay doors for natural ventilation.
Squad-586 responded to the scene with #115 FFT Raul Ontiveros to assist.

As the crew exited, Engine-503 arrived on scene with Capt. Jason Anderson and his crew, who made supply to E586 and made entry to check the status of the fire and continue mop up. BC-501 was assigned Safety and the quick loss stop by E586 saved several RVs and travel trailers and only smoke and heat damage was sufferred by 80% of the contents of the building.

Car-588 with Chief Martinez and his UAS Drone Pilots flew overhead with thermal imaging shared with the Chief on his remote viewer and controller.

A tragedy for Casa Grande RV Sales but the actions of all first responders limited the damage and protected valuable property parked very close together outside of the building. Special thanks to CGFD for the assistance!

The fire cause is undetermined at this time.

Early response for Regional Fire & Rescue Department on a single vehicle rollover at 5:40 am on 7-20-25. AMR AP571, Engine-586 lead by Sr. Captain John Bayles, FF Mac Davis and FFT/EMT Raul Ontiveros, responded with Car-586 to Interstate-8 MP 154. Upon arrival, we found a Toyota Prius with very heavy damage, guard rail damage and one patient who was ejected and categorized as an "immediate" patient.

Banner Air #4 was launched and the patient flown to Chandler Regional with potentially life threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation by Az. DPS.

While returning on Interstate-8 we were dispatched to a vehicle submerged in the CAP Canal located at W. Shedd Rd & S. Thornton Road. Car-586, Engine-586 and AMR AP-501 responded and located PCSO with a Mitsubishi Eclipse as reported, submerged in the canal.

The vehicle was cleared by RFRD personnel and we assisted Elite Towing with the vehicle recovery operation.
