Fall is an ideal time to target certain noxious w**ds in Valley County. Cooler temperatures and seasonal moisture allow treatments to move into the root system, making management efforts more effective.

Priority w**ds to control in the fall include:

Canada thistle – Root systems are most susceptible at this time of year.

Musk and Scotch thistle – Fall rosettes are easier to identify and treat.

Houndstongue and other biennials – First-year growth is visible and manageable now.

Cheatgrass – Fall control reduces spring germination and spread.

Late-Summer W**d Control in Valley County

Late summer is the perfect time to get ahead of next year’s w**d problems. Many noxious w**ds are setting seed now, so action taken in August and September can stop them from spreading.

Best Practices:

Identify and target noxious w**ds common in Valley County such as spotted knapw**d, leafy spurge, and Canada thistle.

Remove plants before seeds mature: Hand-pull smaller patches or mow larger areas.

Use herbicides strategically: Follow label directions and target actively growing plants for the best results.

Dispose of w**ds properly: Bag seed heads and take them to an approved disposal site. Don’t leave them in compost or piles where seeds can spread.

Monitor disturbed areas like roadsides, driveways, and construction sites, which are prime locations for w**d infestations.

Ready, Set, Go, is a program for residents that can help you prepare for an evacuation in case of any emergency.

With large scale disasters possible every month of the year, evacuations have become more commonplace. We encourage the mindset of, ‘when in doubt, get out!’ If you feel threatened, go! Keep in mind, in some cases, there is no time for formal evacuation notifications due to quickly changing conditions.

Evacuation orders will be sent out via, CodeRED (you can sign up https://www.co.valley.id.us/CompleteEmergencyNotificationandAlertingor download the mobile app). Evacuation orders may also be received via radio, television and official social media channels, such as the Valley County Sheriff's Office page.

Valley County Address Number Requirements (Title 5-4-8):

✅ All dwellings must have street numbers posted
✅ Numbers should be visible from the road at your driveway entrance
✅ If your home isn't visible from the road, post numbers both on the home and at the driveway entrance; somewhere that stays visible year-round (not buried by snow or hidden by plants!)
✅ Numbers must contrast with their background
✅ Numbers should be at least 3½ inches tall
✅ Numbers must be visible day and night from the road
