Cascade Volunteer Fire Department Cascade Volunteer Fire Dept provides fire protection, emergency rescue services, fire prevention education, and tornado awareness to the surrounding area

04/29/2026

A heartfelt thank you to the fire departments from Worthington, Bernard, Monticello, Farley, Dyersville, and our own Cascade team for responding so quickly today. While the outcome wasn’t what we had hoped for, the teamwork and dedication shown in controlling the situation truly mean everything to our community.
As Fire Chief of Cascade, Iowa, I couldn’t be more proud of the commitment, courage, and professionalism of our volunteer firefighters. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding group serving and protecting our area.

⚠️ URGENT: SEVERE WEATHER PREP ⚠️

The Cascade Volunteer Fire Department is tracking a significant weather system moving into our area tomorrow. Forecasters are predicting a high risk of severe thunderstorms, high winds, and the potential for tornadoes.

Now is the time to prepare—not when the sirens go off. Please take a few minutes today to ensure your household is ready:

🕒 BEFORE THE STORMS ARRIVE

Charge Your Devices: Ensure cell phones, portable power banks, and weather radios are at 100%.

Secure Loose Items: High winds can turn patio furniture, trash cans, and potted plants into dangerous projectiles. Move them inside or tie them down.

Review Your Shelter Plan: Make sure everyone in your home knows exactly where to go (basement, storm cellar, or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows).

Check Your Kit: Ensure you have flashlights, fresh batteries, a first-aid kit, and sturdy shoes in your safe room.

📢 DURING THE OUTBREAK

Stay Informed: Have multiple ways to receive alerts (Weather apps, NOAA Weather Radio, or local news). Do not rely on outdoor sirens alone—they are designed to warn people who are outside.

Know the Terms: * WATCH: Conditions are favorable for severe weather. Stay alert.

WARNING: A tornado or severe weather has been sighted or indicated by radar. Take cover immediately.

Your safety is our priority. Our crews are on standby and ready to respond, but we need you to do your part by staying weather-aware.

Stay safe, Cascade! 🚒💨

🔥 CRITICAL FIRE SAFETY ALERT: Conditions are Dangerously Dry 🔥
Your safety—and the safety of our volunteer crew—is our top priority. Right now, the landscape around Cascade is incredibly dry. With the current lack of rain and low humidity, the risk of a fire getting out of control is at an all-time high.
If you are planning to burn, please exercise extreme caution and be aware of the following dangers:
⚠️ The Risks You Need to Know:
Rapid Spread: In these conditions, a fire can move faster than a person can run. What starts as a controlled pile can become a wildfire in seconds.
Embers on the Move: Dry winds can carry hot embers significant distances, igniting dry grass or roofs far away from your original burn site.
Hidden Heat: Ash piles can retain heat for days. A gust of wind tomorrow could reignite a pile you thought was out today.
Strained Resources: Our department is staffed by volunteers. Large, preventable fires put a strain on our team and equipment.
🛡️ If You Must Burn, Stay Prepared:
Check the Wind: Never burn on windy or gusty days.
Clear the Perimeter: Ensure there is a wide, bare-dirt perimeter around your burn area.
Stay Present: Never leave a fire unattended for any reason.
Water on Hand: Have a pressurized water source and tools (like shovels or rakes) ready before you light the first match.
Let’s keep Cascade safe. A little extra vigilance goes a long way in protecting our homes and our community.
If a fire gets away from you, do not hesitate. Call 911 immediately.

🚨As a reminder today, Wednesday March 25 at 10 A.M. is the statewide tornado drill for Iowa. This is a great opportunity for families, schools, hospitals and businesses to test and refresh your severe weather safety plans!
