DEMONSTRATIONS

Today is our final Artisan Demo Day of the summer! Come explore the beautiful campus of the Cashiers Historical Society and watch woodworking and fiber arts demonstrations Saturday, August 22, 11:00am–3:00pm.

See master woodworker, Chris Behre, create and sell wooden Shaker Boxes and wooden toys.

In addition, you will also find weaver, Roz Behre, demonstrating lucet weaving and rug braiding techniques. She is offering lucets and knitting needles for sale.

Nominations for the 2026 Village Heritage Award are NOW OPEN!

Do you know a property that helps preserve the unique character and history of Cashiers? We’d love to hear from you!

The Village Heritage Award recognizes homes and businesses that honor the historic spirit of our community through thoughtful preservation, adaptive reuse, and designs that reflect the timeless charm of the Old Village of Cashiers.

Since 2003, this annual award has celebrated properties that help preserve the architectural heritage and village character of the Cashiers Valley.

Community nominations make this award possible! When submitting a nomination, tell us how the property meets the award criteria and, if possible, share a bit about its history and preservation story.

Submit your nomination using the online form at CashiersHistory.org/vha, or download a PDF to mail or deliver in person.

What an amazing time we had at our third annual JAM Camp! Hosting this multi-day camp program with the Blue Ridge Junior...

What an amazing time we had at our third annual JAM Camp! Hosting this multi-day camp program with the Blue Ridge Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) is always one of the highlights of the summer. Thirty campers spent three days on the CHS campus in July where they enjoyed music instruction in traditional Appalachian folk music on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and fiddle. They explored the historic buildings and grounds of CHS, participating in history games like the 19th Century Games Olympics and a campus wide Scavenger Hunt. Arts & crafts classes included paper dying, book binding, stained glass mosaics, and sketching mushrooms on a nature walk by the creek. A huge thank you to our wonderful activity instructors and camp counselors for making this the best JAM Camp yet. We are already looking forward to JAM Camp 2027!

What a tremendous turnout we saw for our recent documentary film screening of Rise, Ruin, and Restoration: A History of Lake Toxaway.

We were overjoyed to co-host this event with the Highlands-Cashiers Film Festival on July 30 at The Village Green with a full house. Emmy-winning director Dan Johnson created a moving documentary that covers a layered and vast history of Lake Toxaway. With a full house and standing room only in the back, it was wonderful to see such support of a new film highlighting local history!

We are excited to continue our Artisan Demo Days at CHS on select Saturdays throughout the summer!

Come explore the beautiful campus of the Cashiers Historical Society on Saturday, July 25, and see Mattie Davenport create and sell woven pieces made on her large floor loom. She will be on the CHS campus from 11:00am–3:00pm. Come take a look and purchase Mattie’s handmade towels, wash cloths, and table runners.
