Natrona County Wildfire Mitigation Team Help landowners protect property and structures on Casper mountain.

02/24/2022

It is with much regret that I inform all of the termination of the Wildfire Mitigation program as of 2/25/2022.
I have been unsuccessful in obtaining any additional grant money which was used to construct fuel treatments and help landowners develop defensible space and/or fuel treatment on their property.
Over the last 20 + years 15 grants have been awarded to the program with over 700 acres of fuel breaks constructed on Casper Mountain.
Thanks to all the landowners who participated in the cost share program and please continue to maintain your property to minimize the damage during the next wildland fire.

Keep an eye on the forecast for Tuesday, November 23, as elevated to critical fire weather conditions may occur in central and southwest Wyoming."

Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across much of the area today, between 12 PM and 8 PM. West to southwest winds with gusts of 25 to 30 mph and relative humidity values below 15% will occur over the warned areas. South winds with gusts of 35 to 40 mph will occur late this morning over the northern half of Johnson County, before gradually decreasing this afternoon.

Red Flag Warnings will remain in effect for portions of Johnson and Natrona counties Saturday afternoon and evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop across areas west of the Divide Saturday afternoon, raising humidity above critical levels. Critical RH values will occur again in these counties, however. Southwest winds with gusts up to 30 mph will again be widespread.

A strong cold front will bring much colder temperatures, widespread precipitation (along with likely mountain snow), and gusty northerly wind beginning Sunday night through Tuesday.

Have a good weekend & enjoy the cooler weather.

Red Flag Warnings continue for central and southern portions of the forecast area until 8 PM Thursday. The combination of west-southwest wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph, above normal temperatures, and low relative humidity will lead to rapid fire spread. Graphical information is contained in the attached PDF.

Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected to continue through Sunday, as winds with gusts of 25 to 30 mph continue. Sunday may end up being the windiest day, as a strong cold front approaches from the west. Please stay tuned for additional updates.

This incoming weather system will bring much cooler temperatures, widespread precipitation (along with likely mountain snow), and gusty northerly wind beginning Sunday night through Tuesday.
