Casper Police Department

Casper Police are donating recovered bicycles to local organizations.

Lost, stolen, seized and otherwise recovered bicycles in Casper oftentimes fall into the hands of the Casper Police Department. After making multiple efforts to find the rightful owners over a period of time, the department has the ability to donate the bikes back to the community.

There are about forty bicycles available for donation. The current application period will close on November 18th, 2020. A department committee will review the applications and select the organizations to receive the bicycles at the end of November.

“The goal is to get these bikes to new owners by Christmas,” said Casper Police Department Public Information Officer Rebekah Ladd. “We’re really excited to help the bikes find new life and purpose by serving some deserving members of our Casper community.”

These used bicycles will be donated in an “as is” condition and may require some maintenance before they are ready to hit the street.

When bicycles are taken into evidence at the Casper Police Department, property and evidence technicians cross-reference them against bikes that have been reported stolen in the area. If there is a match, the department reunites the bike with the rightful owner. If not, additional efforts are made to find the owner of the bike. If there is no report of a stolen bike, or no serial number available, it is increasingly more difficult to find the owner of the bicycle.

Interested organizations can fill out the application online by visiting casperpolice.org/bikedonation.

The Casper Police Department last held a bike donation event in 2019. The following organizations received bicycles: The Hope House, Natrona County Child Protection, The Science Zone, and The Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming.

The Casper Police Department is dedicated to the protection and safety of our community through the highest standards of professionalism in police services. We are proud to give back to our community in this way.

From the Wyoming Department of Family Services:

In Case You Haven't Seen or Heard .......
Wyoming CARES Dollars to Assist with Child Care Expenses
The Department of Family Services (DFS) has been allocated $1.5 million in Wyoming CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act funds to provide relief to families who experienced an increase in child care expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning October 1, residents who experienced an increase in child care expenses as a result of the COVID-19 child care/school closures will be able to apply for financial relief. Examples of increased child care expenses may include, but are not limited to:
* additional or unanticipated child care expenses for children who would have otherwise been attending school;
* child care holding fees to secure spots at child care facilities during the closures, or;
* additional/alternative care for children while parents/guardians were working, attending school or training.
DFS Senior Administrator Roxanne O’Connor says, “The closures of Wyoming schools and child care facilities highlighted child care as an critical component of economic stability for Wyoming families and businesses. This program is a way to help families afford these invaluable services.”
The COVID-19 Child Care Relief Program is not based on income eligibility. Applicants must be Wyoming residents and demonstrate an increase in child care expenses between March 13, 2020 through present. The program will be available starting October 1, 2020 and will operate while funding is available or until December 30, 2020, whichever occurs first.
For more information, please visit https://dfs.wyo.gov/wyoming-child-care-relief-program/, https://childcarerelief.wyo.gov/ or call (307)777-5819.
