Artifact of the Week: M38A2 Practice Bomb

Trainees at the Casper Army Air Base dropped hundreds of these practice munitions each month during WWII. It was filled with sand to simulate the weight of a 100 pound bomb. They also contained a small "spotting" charge for impact marking. Marking impacts helped score trainees on their precision bombing techniques. (Source: Robell Collection)

Artifact of the Week: RH-36 Knife

The RH-36 was a popular knife during WWII. It was originally designed as a civilian hunting knife, the Re*****on (Model 36). PAL Blade Company began making the 6" blades in March 1941. They were prized by servicemen for their reliability and durability as a work or combat knife. While the military issued some RH-36 knives during WWII, most were purchased privately.
