Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District

Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District Heritage Southwest ISD provides many services for each local school district in Cass County. However, HSISD Board members are not elected by the public.

HSISD provides a variety of administrative and instructional services to the local school districts in Cass County, including Cassopolis, Dowagiac Union, Edwardsburg, and Marcellus. Services range from accounting and auditing of student enrollment numbers to the oversight of early childhood education, special education, and career-technical education (CTE) programs. We also provide general educati

on services for professional development, curriculum support, and mental health services. Heritage Southwest ISD is one of 57 ISDs which were formed in 1962 when the 83 county school districts in the state of Michigan were reorganized by Public Act 190 as intermediate school districts. Heritage Southwest ISD has a Superintendent and a Board of Education which operate in much the same fashion as the local school districts. Instead, they are chosen by the local Board of Education members from each of the school districts in Cass County. Heritage Southwest ISD’s mission and purpose is SERVICE! We serve as a liaison between the local school districts of Cass County and the Michigan Department of Education, and as your educational service agency “helping Cass County Schools help kids.”

✨🚀 HSISD Prom 2026 🚀✨

Today, May 7th, our students danced the day away at Prom 2026 with our “Out of this World” theme! 🌌💫 It was truly an incredible day filled with laughter, music, dancing, great food, and unforgettable memories for our students and staff.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this event possible:

⭐ Dowagiac Elks-889 for generously allowing us to use their beautiful space. Our event wouldn't have been successful without the amazing support from your staff, too!

⭐ Wounded Minnow Saloon for providing delicious food our students absolutely loved!

⭐ DJ Jor-El for keeping the dance floor alive with amazing music and energy all day long!

⭐ Family Fare — thank you for the generous floral donations that helped make our prom feel extra special and beautiful for our students!

⭐ A special thank you to the student volunteers from Dowagiac Union High School for helping take photos, serve food, and assist with cleanup throughout the event. Your kindness and willingness to help made a huge difference!

⭐ We would also like to recognize one of our amazing administrative assistants, Megan Johnson, who generously volunteered her time and talents as a hairstylist to help our students feel confident and prom-ready with their favorite hairstyles!

⭐ Our incredible HSISD staff — transportation drivers, teachers, paraprofessionals, itinerant staff, administration, and our student support specialist — thank you for always going above and beyond for our students.

⭐ Our amazing Prom Committee:
