Once again, Rural Volunteer EMS is under attack and we need your help. Please share this and take some action to help your community. Without that volunteer EMS service, it will cost over $1 Million taxpayer dollars to replace every ambulance crew, and these people serve your community at little to no cost. Do you have the ability to sit in a classroom for 288 hours, spend another 288 hours studying, plus the commute to and from the training center? If you do, your local community really needs you. If not please check out the website below and add your comments.
On September 18, 2024 the Wisconsin DHS board passed the recommendation of the training
committee to approve the EMR, EMT, and AEMT curricula as presented (https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/ems/training/curricula.htm). The curricula are currently open for public comment and feedback through October 4th. Following that, DHS would be able to act on it with an intended "all-in" date for implementation in Fall 2026 or before.
With the increase in scope comes additional mandatory (minimum) training hours. EMR would be 108 hours, EMT is 180 hours, and AEMT is 180 hours. This initiative also embeds EMR into the EMT program, which means that for a person with no prior training to get their EMT license, they would have to go through a minimum of 288 hours (8 credits) of training.
Please take action by sharing this and reaching out to Wisconsin Department of Health or your local legislature.
