Located at the base of the Castle Crags in the upper Sacramento River canyon, the Castella Fire Protection District protects multiple communities as well as critical infrastructure within a 185 square mile area of northern Shasta County, California. The Castella Fire Protection District works in parallel with the Dunsmuir Fire Department, through an automatic aid agreement, as one operational grou

p of volunteers to provide fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors of Castella and Dunsmuir.

Castella-Dunsmuir Fire responded to assist the U.S. Forest Service with the Flume Fire, a vegetation fire along northbound Interstate 5 near Flume Creek.

Thanks to a fast and coordinated response, crews were able to quickly stop the forward progress of the fire and keep it from becoming a larger incident. It was a strong reminder of how important teamwork and good working relationships are when multiple agencies come together during an emergency.

We are fortunate to work alongside the U.S. Forest Service - Shasta-Trinity National Forest,Shasta-Trinity National Forest - Fire & Aviation Management , Caltrans District 2, and CHP - Mount Shasta during the Flume Fire. It made for a smooth response and a quick stop, and we truly appreciate everyone who helped get the job done safely.

Your generosity, donations, and community spirit made this event a success once again. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who purchased tickets, shirts, bid in the auction, shared a meal with us, and helped make the evening so special.

These limited-edition shirts will be available at our Annual Prime Rib Dinner Fundraiser, and every purchase helps support the men and women who proudly serve the community.

7-6-2026 Dunsmuir-Castella Fire responded to a commercial vehicle fire at Pollard Flat alongside Lakehead Fire Company 54, CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit/Shasta County Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service-Tahoe National Forest, and CHP - Mount Shasta. Crews worked quickly to contain the fire to the vehicle, preventing it from spreading to the surrounding area. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. We appreciate the teamwork and coordinated response of all agencies involved. A special thank you to U.S. Forest Service-Tahoe National Forest Engine 333 for coming upon the incident and making a rapid stop that prevented further fire spread.

🚫 Remember: All fireworks are illegal in our area and if used can quickly start devastating wildfires, especially during hot, dry conditions.

Celebrate Safely:
✔️Attend a professional fireworks display instead.

✔️Never use illegal fireworks.

✔️Keep BBQs and outdoor cooking attended at all times.

✔️Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials.

✔️Clear dry grass and debris away from grills and campfires.

Burn Permits will be suspended for all outdoor residential burning within State Responsibility area of Siskiyou County starting Monday, June 15 @ 6:00am.

Castella-Dunsmuir Fire Department was happy to help out with this year’s Egg Drop event at Castle Rock School - Castella! We brought Truck 820 out for the big drops and enjoyed spending time with the students, staff, and families throughout the event. Thanks for letting us be part of the fun!
