Dunsmuir-Castella Firefighters were hard at work this Christmas, responding to a structure fire in Dunsmuir and assisting Union Pacific with the removal of a fallen tree at a crossing in Sweetbriar. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident, and crews were able to mitigate the situations safely and efficiently. Thank you to Mount Shasta Fire Department, CHP - Mount Shasta , Mount Shasta PD, and Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office for assisting at the structure incident.

As winter weather sets in, we remind the community to take extra precautions with fire safety—use caution when operating heating sources, keep flammable items away from heaters and fireplaces, and ensure smoke alarms are working properly. When using wood stoves, always dispose of fire ash properly by placing cooled ashes in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid and storing it away from structures, as hot embers can remain hidden for days. These simple steps can help keep families and homes safe throughout the winter season.

Every new piece of equipment means a chance to learn. This week, our volunteers put our newest addition, Water Tender 931, to work in portable pump practice, proving once again that preparation is the heart of service.

A big thank you to Occidental CSD-Fire/Rescue for our newest addition to the department!
