ELEMENTS is an all-inclusive program within the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office designed to implement a combination of education, prevention, intervention, and diversion strategies to address the many factors that cause and sustain youth violence. We work directly with youth, their family, school personnel, law enforcement, and the community to help prevent youth violence. Some of the methods

we use include: impulse control, conflict resolution, behavior modification, problem solving, teaching social and coping skills, peer mediation, tutoring, extra-curricular activities, improving family communication and increasing family activities, educating parents, teaching effective discipline in the homes, helping reduce association with delinquent peers, helping build a positive relationships, providing exposure to new activities, and providing character building lessons.

It was inspiring to bring together so many passionate groups and community partners who work alongside one another to make sure our kids have what they need to thrive—both inside and outside of the classroom.

🏀 The 3rd Annual Elements vs. KMI Basketball Tournament! 🏀

What a game! The 3rd Annual Elements vs. KMI basketball tournament did NOT disappoint! After KMI took home the win in 2024 and Elements claimed the victory in 2025, this year was the ultimate tiebreaker—and Elements took the win! 🏆🎉

This game was a nail-biter from start to finish. The kids played their hearts out, competed hard, and showed so much respect for one another throughout the entire game. We couldn’t be prouder of every player who stepped onto the court!

This game has quickly become one of our favorite days of the year, and we are so grateful for our incredible partnership with KMI, their amazing staff, and, of course, their awesome kids. ❤️

A very special thank you to CFCC Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Mason Mullins and CFCC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Felicity Havens for giving their time, sharing their expertise, and giving back to our community. We are so grateful to have you both be part of such a special day!

🎉 Shoutout to Tarvis! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Tarvis, who was recently recognized as Employee of the Quarter for the Support Services Division of the Sheriff’s Office! 👏🏽💙

Tarvis consistently goes above and beyond to meet each child where they are. He doesn’t just show up—he invests, connects, and makes a genuine effort to be part of the lives of the youth he serves.

From leading basketball camps and giving fishing lessons, to attending sporting events and sitting down to eat school lunch with the kids, Tarvis goes the extra mile (and then some!). What makes his impact even more special is that he engages with all of our program youth, not just those directly assigned to him.

It’s no surprise that parents and school officials often seek Tarvis out because of the intentional way he immerses himself in the lives of the kids. He builds relationships, earns trust, and shows these young people that they matter.

Tarvis, thank you for your dedication, heart, and commitment to our youth. We are so proud of you! Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 🏆👏🏽🎉

Yesterday our high school team had the opportunity to visit the beautiful campus of UNC Wilmington! 🌊🐚

We love that we have a university like UNCW right here in our own community. Our students enjoyed exploring the campus, learning about academic programs, and getting a glimpse of what college life has to offer.

Experiences like these help inspire future goals and remind our students that exciting opportunities are closer than they may think.

Thank you, UNCW, for welcoming us and giving our students a great campus tour. We can't wait to see where their futures take them! 💙💛
