Strong partnerships are one of the most effective tools we have to keep our communities safe.

It was great to join our partners last night at the City of San Antonio for a conversation about public safety and our shared commitment to keeping District 9 and Pct. 3 safe.

Public safety is strongest when our agencies work together, share information, and stay focused on the needs of our community. I'm encouraged by the conversations we had and look forward to exploring additional ways to strengthen the partnership between BCSO and SAPD in the future.

Thank you to District 9 Councilwoman Misty D. Spears for organizing this event and bringing everyone together. Thank you as well to Sheriff Javier Salazar, San Antonio Police Department Interim Police Chief Jesse Salame, State Rep. Mark Dorazio, and Bexar County Police, Constable Pct.3 - Mark Vojvodich, Constable for taking part, and to everyone who came out to engage with us.

“I’ve continued pushing for Commissioners Court to take a hard look at the challenges facing our jail. Today’s vote and discussion was an important step forward, but we can’t lose momentum. If we’re serious about improving public safety and protecting lives, we have to stay focused on the larger systemic issues that remain unresolved.

We still have difficult conversations ahead about behavioral health, diversion, jail capacity, and the backlog in our criminal justice system.

We got a win today, but our work is far from over.”

County leaders say earlier screenings could help identify urgent medical issues before people enter the jail population.

‼️Commissioners Court Update ‼️

It has been more than three months since Commissioners Court last took up the future of the Bexar County Jail, at my urging. After last month's discussion was postponed by some of my colleagues, we're finally set to continue that conversation tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4.

I'll continue pushing for accountability, transparency, and meaningful action that addresses the root causes of our jail challenges while keeping public safety at the forefront and being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

Bexar County voters approved Proposition A with a clear vision: strengthen the Coliseum Complex while protecting and enhancing the future of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

I support moving forward with a rodeo-first plan that honors the will of the voters and positions this important community asset for long-term success.

As discussions continue, any additional opportunities should complement that vision—not compete with it. If a project supports expanded rodeo programming, is financially self-sustaining, and doesn't require additional taxpayer investment, it's worth considering. But we cannot have competing visions for the same county-owned property.

I'm encouraged to see the Greater San Antonio Chamber also supporting implementation of Proposition A and recognizing the rodeo's economic impact.

With a shared vision and clear direction, we can deliver on what voters approved and create lasting benefits for our community.

Following the recent spike in crime in the Stone Oak Area, District 9 Councilwoman Misty D. Spears will be hosting an important conversation about public safety with neighbors on Tuesday.

The Loop 1604 North Expansion Project took another big step forward today.

Our Director of Constituent Services, Jenny Enderlin, represented our office at the groundbreaking for Segment 6—the final piece of this transformative corridor.

This milestone will complete a critical connection to the I-35 Northeast Expansion Project. Together, these TxDOT-led transportation investments—representing more than $4 billion in improvements—will strengthen our transportation network and support the continued growth of Bexar County for years to come.

A long-needed safety upgrade Is underway in Cross Mountain Ranch!

When neighbors brought concerns about rotted wood posts being used as guardrails, we got to work. Our team partnered with Bexar County Public Works to replace them with modern metal guardrails that meet updated safety requirements.

The first phase of installations is now complete, with additional guardrails to be replaced as funding becomes available.

We’re grateful to those who brought this to our attention. We strive to be the gold standard in constituent services—listening to residents, working with county staff, and delivering results.
