Excellent article about 'a day in the life' of a Colorado search and rescue volunteer. Well stated and well written, highly recommended.

The text alert can pop up at any minute, notifying search and rescue members of a missing hiker, injured climber, or overdue backcountry skier. Answering that alert is part of their daily lives, and it can come at any time, in the middle of dinner, during a snowstorm, or even while they’re laying ...

Excellent Flight For Life Colorado "Lift Ticket" training this evening. FFL trains rescuers to be prepared for transport to the backcountry if needed. Understanding the key helicopter operations and best processes to work with the crew is priceless. Thank you! So grateful to also complete this before the lightning rolled in, but amazing skies this evening throughout.

Our new member class "fielded" a couple weeks ago, after nine months of intensive training, skills sign-offs across multiple areas, and hard work throughout. They are now responding to missions, and we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate them in our meeting last evening. Congratulations and welcome to the field to Ben, James, Matt D, Matt N, Ryan, RJ, Heidi, Ted, Michael, Brian and Dan! And many thanks to all of our mentor team and trainers for so many hours and teamwork over these months. Stay safe out there.

We had the privilege of demonstrating a scenario-based rescue and extraction from the "Zinn Overlook Trail" area of Devil's Head yesterday. This was in support of a request from the Colorado Mountain Club BIMS (Backcountry Incident Management School). It was a great training and we were also grateful for all the hikers we saw on the trail both on the way up and down, who were not only being safe but also kindly made room for us as we came down with the subject. We love Douglas County. Stay safe out there. Photo credits for the shots below to Wayne from the BIMS team.
