You’ll now find Douglas County Veterans Services in an expanded office space in downtown Castle Rock.

Offices have relocated from 301 Wilcox St. to 410 S. Wilcox St., Suite 101, in Castle Rock. The new location is just a few blocks away, allowing Veterans and their families to continue accessing services nearby.

Douglas County’s Veterans Service Officers help Veterans and their dependents understand and apply for the benefits they have earned, connect with available resources and navigate federal, state and local programs.

If you are looking for Veterans services in Douglas County, we want to let you know the Douglas County Veterans Service Office will be temporarily closed Monday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 9, while staff attend mandatory training.

Veterans and their families will find the Douglas County Veterans Service Office at a new location beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The office is moving from 301 Wilcox St. to 410 S. Wilcox St., Suite 101, in Castle Rock. The new location is just a few blocks away, allowing Veterans and their families to continue accessing services nearby.

The vision to build a place for our Veterans in Douglas County moves forward thanks to the continued support of contributors, now including Miller United Real Estate, which presented Heroes Hall with a $20,000 check.

“I am incredibly grateful for this generous donation to the Heroes Hall Foundation,” said Commissioner George Teal. “This gift will help bring Heroes Hall to life as a lasting place where we can honor those who serve our country by giving them a place to gather. Support like this demonstrates our community’s deep appreciation for our heroes and moves us one important step closer to making this vision a reality.”

🎖️ A Douglas County hero receives his Purple Heart, more than 20 years overdue.

Army Veteran and Parker resident Joel O’Connor has finally received the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during combat operations in Iraq on July 4, 2005.

O’Connor enlisted in the U.S. Army following September 11, 2001, and went on to serve two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He earned the Combat Action Badge for his actions under enemy fire in 2005, but the Purple Heart recognizing his injuries was still to come.

This week, that long-overdue recognition finally arrived.
Surrounded by his wife, Natalie, their three daughters and members of the community at Cherokee Ranch and Castle, O’Connor was pinned with the Purple Heart by Rep. Lauren Boebert, whose office helped secure the medal.

Congratulations, Joel, on this deeply deserved honor. Douglas County is proud to recognize one of our own for his courage, sacrifice and service to our nation.

The Purple Heart represents courage under circumstances most of us will never fully understand. Today, we pause to remember its recipients, recognize the sacrifices carried by their families, and express our enduring gratitude.

The national organization Vet the Vote is recognizing Douglas County Elections as a Bronze Award recipient for the number of local military Veterans who serve as temporary election workers, known as election judges.

More than 30 local military Veterans are among the planned workforce of 225 election judges for the June 30, 2026, Primary Election in Douglas County.

“Thank you to Vet the Vote for this Bronze Award recognition,” said Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Sheri Davis, “Our Elections team is stronger thanks to the dedication of our military veterans who extend their service through civic duty.”
