Since 1946, the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department has continued to grow from one fire engine to our current fleet of seven vehicles, with a few in between. The station has moved from the Edward L. Ellis Memorial Station, to the C. Mulholland Station and in May of 2015, the department moved to the most recent Fire Station. The membership of approximately 20 is voluntary. Training and fire prevent
ion awareness have been top priorities of the department. Results from this prioritization show that although our population has doubled since 1969, the number of fire calls has been reduced. The Castleton Volunteer Fire Departments serves an area of approximately 38 square miles (26,688 acres) that responds to fires and other emergencies in the town and to mutual aid calls as needed by neighboring towns. Our fleet consists of:
Ladder 1 - A 5 person cab, 85' Mid-mount ladder truck with a full compliment of ground ladders. This truck allows us to work safely on roofs as well as assist in rescue operations. Engine 3 - A 6 person cab,1500 GPM pump with 1000 gallons of water on board. This is our main pumper at a fire scene supplying water to firefighters as well as transporting equipment for rescue operations. Engine 6 - A 2 person cab, 500 GPM high pressure pump with 400 gallons of water on board. This truck is our quick attack truck that we send first to allow us to get a head start on fighting the fire as well as responding to motor vehicle collisions. Brush 5 - A 3 person cab with equipment for fighting brush and wild land fires
Tanker - A 3 person cab with 2300 gallons of water that can be dumped into a temporary holding tank on scene to supply water. Since there is a large portion of our response area with no hydrants this is our primary means for bringing water to the fire. Utility Van - 7 person capacity utility vehicle that carries portable pumps, additional wild land equipment, and our portable air pack filling system. If you have any questions about our department or our equipment please let us know and we will do our best to answer them!
